While playing tug, Lulu was surprised by George. Due to her past history of fear, her reaction was to drop the toy and run away.
My response was, “No big deal. We’re just getting started!”

She re-engaged, and we played hard.

Feeling sorry for or comforting the dog doesn’t change anything. Showing the dog that it’s no big deal and moving on helps the dog perceive the situation very differently.

Your dog will mirror your energy and emotions.🐾🐾👣

Dogs are like people. They become what they consistently do. So, be careful what you allow your dog to do repeatedly. 🐾🐾👣

When it comes to giving dogs their medicine, many people struggle. Here, Willow sees me getting her medicine ready. I tell her to lie down and wait before she can access her medicine and a very tasty treat.
As we do this, we work on obedience, impulse control, and building some frustration tolerance, because she wants that treat. When she is released, that frustration is relieved by accessing the food, and she doesn’t think about her medication—only the tasty treat.

The more we do this, the more energy and joy she receives from accessing her medicine or even her regular food. This is one form of conditioning a response and clearly shows the importance of creating and shaping behavior.

In the past, her owner mentioned how Willow would pick the medicine out of her treats or food and refuse to eat it. Now, she has developed such a strong desire to eat that she wants to consume everything. 🐾🐾👣

Not looking for perfection. I’m looking for clarity and control.
Willow and Yogi are excited, break command, and that is perfect. It’s an opportunity to test. Don’t get upset about mistakes. Even the best make mistakes. Take advantage of them to learn and improve.💭🐾🐾👣
