Juneau Jumpers, Inc

Juneau Jumpers has been in existence since 1985. We are both a competition and performance rope skipping team. The mission of the Juneau Jumpers Inc.

is to promote the sport of jump rope as a life-long physical fitness activity in Alaskan communities. Although Juneau Jumpers is a private, non-profit organization independent of the Juneau School District, the district recognizes it as a positive youth program, and Glacier Valley Elementary School provides gym space to the team. Juneau Jumpers is grateful for Glacier Valley’s sponsorship and expects all members to promote a respectful and friendly relationship with the staff of Glacier Valley School. For many years, Juneau Jumpers was operated through Glacier Valley Elementary School. In 1993, the Juneau Jumpers Foundation, Inc. (JJF) was established to gain non-profit status and to receive and manage monies from grants, pull-tab activities, the annual raffle, and other miscellaneous revenue. (The team no longer receives pull-tab revenues.) There was no general membership, elections or voting rights for parents or jumpers in JJF. Around the same time as the creation of JJF, a parent booster club was formed to assist the coaches in organizing team activities. In the Fall of 2003, new articles of incorporation were filed, and the name of the organization was changed to Juneau Jumpers, Inc. The 2003 changes created a membership consisting of all parents of jumpers, and jumpers 18 and older, who are in good standing. Membership meetings are held at least once a year, primarily to elect a board. Since the board oversees the general operation of the team, the parent group no longer meets, but parents are notified, encouraged and welcome to attend board meetings.

Mission: The mission of the Juneau Jumpers Inc. is to promote the sport of jump rope as a life-long physical fitness activity in Alaska communities and beyond. Through performances, competitions, and workshops, Juneau Jumpers fosters leadership, self-discipline, and teamwork.

In this time of COVID-19 sometimes you have to get creative to keep your team together! Some of the Juneau Jumpers attend practice on Zoom. 👍🏾

[10/15/20]   A little rusty after seven months, but it comes back quickly. Practicing with social distancing is difficult, but we're making it work. And no one has crashed into a post yet!

After a 7-month hiatus due to COVID-19, the Juneau Jumpers are back!
The first practice in our shiny new space (Thank you, Mendenhall Mall!) was fun and noisy and these kids still have mad skillz! They are already working on learning routines for the end-of-the-pandemic show, whenever that is, and when the next competition is held, they will be ready.

New practice space!

A big THANK YOU to MENDENHALL MALL for donating practice space to the Juneau Jumpers!
The Jumpers got together and gave it a new coat of paint today.

[05/25/20]   Socially distanced celebrations have been difficult during the coronavirus pandemic, but the Juneau Jumpers needed to send off one of their own.
Asianna Mazon has been a Juneau Jumper since 2012. She graduated from JDHS and will be going off to college in the fall.
The younger jumpers were happy to see each other for the first time in more than two months and celebrate Asianna's accomplishment!

Warming up for practice with Bongo.
They are so sad they won't get to do a show anytime soon! But they want do one when they can, and also take jump rope on the road.
The American Jump Rope National Competition for this year was cancelled.😕
But if you want to support the Jumpers, the annual raffle is going on now. Tickets are $10 and the grand prize is 2 Alaska Airlines tickets.
Contact a Jumper family and get in on the raffle action! Most can sell online with Venmo, PayPal or similar and text you a photo of your tickets.
(We are also looking for sponsors. If your business is interested, shoot us a message!)
