One month since my lumbar fusion 🖤

Worldwide there has been an uptick in eating disorders during the pandemic. The earlier someone can receive treatment the better the outcome to fight the disease. Unfortunately, Alaska is lacking ED educated professionals, treatment centers, and resources to help those struggling.
“People who experience eating disorders are born with genomic markers. Once these markers are triggered, they are not easily “turned off’’ and can significantly alter neural pathways in the brain. This can lead to self-destructive eating behaviour and potentially life-threatening physical and mental health conditions...
Eating disorders are particularly dangerous form of mental illness. They can progress rapidly and are associated with high mortality rates, including a 32-fold increased risk of suicide.”
theage.com.au The Prime Minister's adviser on suicide prevention says lockdown was hard for many of us. For anyone with an eating disorder it was "horror on steroids".
It was a gorgeous day in Juneau for my first walk since my lumbar fusion. 😊✨💙Didn’t quite make it to Pt. Louisa but it was a great start for almost 1 month since major back surgery. #alpenglowhealth #spinewarrior #lumbarfusion
It has been three weeks since surgery. Thank you to all my family & friends who have sent healing messages, cards, flowers, and those who have made delicious meals for our family and taken our dogs for adventures! Without your thoughtfulness this recovery would be so much harder.❤️
Successes so far include: walking without my cane, moving upstairs to my bedroom, washing both hands at the same time, and spitting into the sink after brushing my teeth!🤣
I look forward to starting rehab later this month but for now I will continue to rest, read, binge Netflix, and hopefully start painting soon. 🖤
A huge thank you to my hubby, Dustin-I couldn’t have done this without your support, love, sarcasm, and amazing nursing skills. 🙃

📷: BEFORE & AFTER
My heart has been aching for Southeast Alaska especially Haines after a devastating storm produced record rain resulting in floods and landslides which have left families without homes. My thoughts & prayers are with those who loved ones are still missing. 🙏 I have felt helpless in the mist of all this trauma but today I was able to give light & love to my dear friends who call Haines home. ✨💕✨
‘Magic at Midnight w/ Trinity’ is a tribute to their dog that was hit by a car. Now in another time of darkness they have brightness, light and love in their living room along with the companionship of their fur babies, Leleu and Loupo. 🖤 #alpenglowhealth
Spine warrior! Pre-op jitters, purple & green titanium bling infused with stem cells, post op facial swelling after 4 hour surgery, nourishing ‘witches brew’ for my body, and a painful ride to hotel from hospital. Just a sneak peak of major back surgery during a pandemic.
Time to rest & heal💙✨

Summer paintings 2020
2020 has proven to be the most challenging year for me and my family. I had to step away from teaching fitness to be the caregiver of my son during his illness and now his recovery. Then Covid hit the world and continued to shake things up. Despite the hardship of this year I slowed down and turned to things that bring me joy: journaling, yoga, walks in nature, and painting. Painting is such a therapeutic process for me~ a way to brush away the pain & suffering and replace it with color, brightness, light, happiness, and joy. 🧡
Slow down Sunday with lunch on an island 🖤
This. Just this. Sums up this last year. ✨💙✨

Mental health break. 🤍
"The worldwide spread of the coronavirus is extremely serious. Panic and over-reactivity are not just counterproductive, they are potentially dangerous. Hoarding resources when others are in dire need may cost lives. Undermining government efforts for containment is dangerous and may cost lives. If free movement hasn’t been taken away in your area, it means you need to be even more diligent and responsible about your actions." ~Lynn Ruolo
A break from all the cleaning and projects to focus on emotional health 🤍
