Wrestling friendships are solid and long lasting. Because wrestling is a tough sport, kids gain a respect for their teammates and their competitors. Many coaches tell me that because of wrestling they could go into any town in Montana and have a place to stay and I believe that. It’s been 30 years since I wrestled competitively but last week I golfed with a former Polson teammate and every morning I receive a Bible verse from a former rival and then college teammate. These unbreakable bonds come from pushing each other to be better. These are true friendships where people show up for each other in their time of need. That type of friendship is becoming more and more uncommon in our current culture. Personally I am so grateful for all my former teammates, opponents, coaches, and everyone else who made wrestling possible for my generation. Your child will someday feel the same way.

Congratulations to the Ballard family on the arrival of their new child. What a beautiful family! 15 years ago Boyce became the first state champion at Glacier HS. He went on to play football at Tech where he got an engineering degree. Brittany was a standout in softball at GHS and played at the University of Great Falls later becoming a physical therapist. It is admirable just how much faith and family have become front and center in raising their kids.

Wrestling is a great sport to instill confidence in children. It is the only school sport where you are one on one with another person without any other object. In other words there is no place to hide and the performance falls only on the person in the match. By doing hard things like wrestling, kids learn to be confident in other ways. Over years of coaching it is by far the most satisfying thing to watch how children change once their confidence grows. They walk different, talk different, start to look people in the eye when they talk, and perform better in other areas of life such as school. In the age of technology we are seeing a confidence crisis in this generation of children. Putting your child in wrestling can significantly help in this area of growth. Special thanks to Three Sisters Photography and Azalia Rosales Media for the photography.

When you live in one of the most beautiful places you have to take time to play as well. Seven high schoolers who participated in the Summer Series enjoyed a lake day. Thank you to Coach Leck who showed up with a boat.
