A beautiful Hershel House rifle. There probably hasn't been anyone more influential to the longrifle culture than Hershel. I find his style to be wonderful. Do you like his work? What do you enjoy about it?

I don't recall who built this J.K. Hawken kit, but look at that wood! Any guesses what species it is?

Here’s something new. In the past, we would design a part with CAD, SLA resin print a model and then use this master to pour aluminum shell / epoxy core molds for wax injection and investment casting. The problem is sometimes the printed plastic part can be difficult to remove from molds, even with release, and they sometimes break. Then you are forced to try to dig the master out witout damaging the mold. Not fun…

This time we tried 3D metal printing for the first time. It turned out pretty good. Probably better than I expected, but it still had some issues. The whole thing was bent, the surface finish could have been better and it seems the first bit of area printed was somewhat irregular. Regardless, it should work well after filing and polishing. It’s a neat technology and certainly has some applications.
