Honoring the past and encouraging the future of Tatsuo Shimabuku’s Isshinryu.

Each year, the Isshinryu Hall of Fame brings together practitioners from all associations to honor our art, celebrate achievement and walk in unity through the One Heart Way. The Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame (IHOF) is an international event, held annually to honor and recognize outstanding Isshin-Ryu practitioners from around the world for their contributions to the art of Isshin-Ryu Karate regardless of their various association affiliations or dojo memberships. It provides the opportunity for all Isshin-Ryu practitioners to come together in fellowship, exchange knowledge and ideas, begin new friendships and renew old ones, as well as participate in healthy unbiased competition.

It is with deep sadness that the Isshinryu Hall of Fame mourns the passing of Grandmaster Bud Ewing.

Grandmaster Ewing was a respected sensei, mentor, leader, and former member of the IHOF Board. His impact reached far beyond the dojo, and his dedication to Isshinryu, his students, and the martial arts community will be remembered by the many lives he influenced throughout his lifetime.

After a long and courageous battle with leukemia, his fight is now over. We are grateful for the years of leadership, friendship, knowledge, and service he shared with our community.

Please keep his wife, Ellen, his son, Bill, and the entire Ewing family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Grandmaster Ewing’s legacy will continue through his students, his teachings, and the generations of martial artists who were fortunate enough to learn from him and call him a friend.

Rest in peace, Grandmaster Bud Ewing. Your contribution to Isshinryu will not be forgotten.

We are incredibly proud to welcome each of them to the team and cannot wait to see the energy they bring to the 2027 Isshinryu Hall of Fame!

We are incredibly grateful for every Sensei, instructor, competitor, family member, supporter, and friend who traveled to Gatlinburg and helped make this year so special.
