The History of Basketball

This has been a very eventful week in the world of basketball. A legendary coach passed away. The NBA playoffs have been awesome to watch. And the Donald Sterling fiasco has resulted in a lifetime ban for an NBA owner (and well-deserved in my view). I just wanted to take a moment to say that one of the great things about sports is the inclusion, feeling of team, and belonging. Movies like "Remember The Titans" and "42" remind us of America's past AND of sports' healing qualities. Yes, there is a dark side to sports also. But, when I consider all the inspirational stories, all the moments of overcoming evil (Think Berlin 1936 with Jesse Owens), I am firmly convinced that sports can be such a force for good, a way of rising above so much pain and so many social issues. Basketball is a great American story.

Yes, Coach Tyndall allowed all 4 great recruits out of their commitments. That is OK. It is the honorable and respectful thing to do for these young men. Now we are at the foundation. It's time to build. Let's keep the confidence that Coach Tyndall is capable of constructing a strong program of which we can be proud.
