One Day This Won’t Be Your Life Anymore by Emily Edwards

I spent nine years chasing the game I loved. I played every weekend, holiday and summer until I was 18 years old. I collected memories and trophies and battle scars. And then, in one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made, I walked away. I felt sure that it was best for me and most days, I believe I was right. I was watching my dad’s team play this weekend (he coaches high school softball) and a parent asked me “What would tell these girls if you knew they’d listen?” And this is what I would say:

One day you will walk off the field for the last time. One day you will untie your cleats forever. One day you will put your glove in your bag and there it will stay for months at a time. One day your tan lines will fade. You’ll forget the feeling of seams beneath your fingers. You’ll struggle to remember the way it felt to hit the perfect pitch. You’ll see your teammates once or twice a year instead of every single day. You won’t slide into second. You won’t round first. One day you’ll be on the other side the fence.

One day this won’t be your life anymore. And when it’s not, you won’t remember the things that you’d think. You’ll have no idea how many times you struck out. You won’t know how many errors you made. You won’t be impressed with how many home runs you hit. You won’t care about your batting average or ERA. For the most part, you won’t remember wins and losses at all.

After your last inning has come and gone, you’re going to remember the times when you wanted to quit— but didn’t. You’re going to remember the teammates (and families) you loved along the way. You’re going to remember playing in the freezing cold, driving rain, and unbearable heat. You’re going to remember the hotel bonding and the eight hour road trips. You’re going to remember the early practices and late games. You’re going to remember the coaches that never gave up on you. But most of all, you’re going to remember the sheer happiness that came only from being between two chalk lines. You’re going to remember the moments you did more than you ever believed you could. You’re going to remember the times you used every bit of talent God gave you.

One day this won’t be your life anymore. So for today, run as fast as your feet will take you. Whether it’s a pop up to the pitcher or it bounces off the fence in left field. For today, swing as hard as you can. Commit to every pitch and give it everything you have. For today, make every play like it’s the last chance you’ll ever get. For today, play because you want to. Play because you need to. Play because the little girl you used to be fell in love with this game all those years ago.

For today, don’t stop until the last pitch is thrown. Play with every piece of your heart and leave it all on the field. One day, this won’t be your life anymore. When that day comes, make sure you wouldn’t change a thing.

This page was created for our team in 2013. Was a great year for these wonderful ladies. Most have since graduated and off to college. You will see them stop to watch a game or two during the regular softball season.
It was my honor and privilege to have coached this team for the 2013 season. Coach Brad was a fantastic Assistant Coach. We had the best parents attending most of our games, including the away games.
Thank you again, Coach Dale and Rol Esslinger for greatest opportunity. This team was special to me.

Coach Paul.

Please keep Tina in your prayers.

A special note to all my JV players:

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

Through this time, ladies, stay strong in Christ. Continue to lift each other in prayer. Find comfort in one another. To my captains, reach out to your team and provide the wisdom and comfort you have been taught. I am with you, always. - Coach Paul.

WELCOME BACK, Lady Heralds. Summer 2013 is behind us and in front of us is another year of learning. Congrats to Abby, Annalise, Chelsea, Emily and Lindsey for being Seniors. Final year of high school...Make It Count!

Hope everyone's summer is going well! Just wanted to remind everyone, the WCHS Softball program is having softball camp starting July 31st- August 2nd at 4pm to 6pm. The camp is hosted by Coach Dale.

Hope all the girls can make it.

Please let Coach Dale know if you can't be there.

Our season couldn't have ended better than the party we had last night at the Burdick's. Thank you so much Grant and Marlene for opening your house to the team. Thank you Vanetia for putting the whole thing together,
As I shared with all of you last night, great teams start with great parents and last night it showed the closeness our team has with one another.
Our devotion was given by Tina and I'm hoping she will send me each scripture she gave to every one of her players. Once I have them, I will post them to our page for everyone to read and enjoy.
I want to say thank you again to Brad, Vanetia, Sue and Kalika for working with me in developing our program.
Blessings to all our players as they move on. Hope to see most of you at the softball camp and then for softball tryouts.

Our JV team would like to extend a congratulations to the Varsity Seniors who will be graduating on Saturday. Congrats to Amy Ortiz, Linh Blackney and Savannah Wilkenson.
Congratulations to all our our players for moving on to their next grade.
Finally, to our Juniors who will not be with us next year, blessings to Abby, Annalise, Chelsea, Emily C and Lindsay. You girls were fantastic to coach and you will be missed. Hope to see you around the field next year.

What a great time last night at our banquet. Zapian's Restaurant did a great job with catering. I really enjoyed sing most of our players. Hats off to all the girls who were recognized for their GPA...what an awesome job, girls. Iwish there were more awards to around for each of our players, but to recap our team awards: Most Inspirational: Tina; Most Improved: Maddie; Sportsmanship Award: Lindsay; Style & Grace: Abby; MVP - Offense: Emily R.; MVP-Defense: Annalise and Coaches Award: Chelsea.
Special thanks to Coach Brad, Coach Becky, Sue, Vanetia and Kalika for the extra support they gave our team.
Looking forward to next year already!! Blessings to all of you this summer and please be safe.

Coach Paul

Our season came to a close last week with our JV Heralds going undefeated in league play. What an outstanding job each of our players did and how they all participated in our success.
Tonight is our banquet at Herald Hall beginning at 7p.
Will be so nice to be with my athletes again.

Final practice of the season...we had a water balloon fight. Great way to end a fantastic season for the JV Lady Heralds. We play at Maranatha HS tomorrow. Should be a great game. If you're in Pasadena at around 5:30p...we will be there. Varsity play at Maranath at 3:15p. Going to be a great day of softball for all the Lady Heralds!!

Well, this is our last week for Lady Heralds JV Softball. Did that go fast. What tremendous growth we've seen from all these women. Our hi-lite of the season was each and every one's devotion before the game. The on running theme of each of the devotions was to rely not on yourself, but trust in Christ and He will see you through your trials and tribulations. Our coaching staff was truly the blessed to be around such great women of God.
This week we have 2 road games. Tuesday we will be at Oxford Academy in Cypress and we close out the season against our division rival, Maranatha HS in Pasadena. We hope most of you are able to make our games.

"Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful." John Wooden

What a great job for our Lady Heralds. So proud of our girls for turning it around from our game earlier in the week. Starting our day with a Day of Service, followed by some team bonding for lunch and then on the field with the Varsity team for Senior Day...and then softball vs Valley Christian. As they have done this whole season, the battery of Annalise and Chelsea kept the Valley Christian hitters in check. Awesome and aggressive hitting from our team. Great home run from Krystin J. Precision and timely hitting from Chelsea, Megan, Emily R, and Emily C. Final score was 15-1.
Just 2 more game left. Our girls travel to Oxford Academy in Cypress on Tuesday and close out the season vs Maranatha on Thursday.
NOTE WORTHY: Hats off to Isabel (12) from Valley Christian for pitching with 2 broken fingers on her glove hand. Great job, Izzy.

Great late inning win for our Lady Heralds JV Softball team as we battled Ontario Christian. Took a little while for our team to settle down, but when they did, we walked away with a decisive 11-7 victory. Annalise kept us in the game with her pitching. Awesome fielding from Krysten and our girls turned a great double play with Emily R and Abby. Excellent and timely hitting from Megan.
Next up, we have our last home game vs Valley Christian. This is also Senior Day and our girls will be a part of the ceremony.

Awesome win again for our Lady Heralds JV Softball team beating Maranatha for the 2nd time in the same week. Great pitching Annalise and awesome centerfield defense from Cici. Outstanding triple in the 3rd inning by Krysten.
We play Ontario Christian on Tuesday and looks to be another great game for our Lady Heralds. Hope to see you all out there to support us.

Hats off to our JV Lady Heralds softball team. Another great and solid win for our girls vs Maranatha Minutemen. We had a lot to play for and all our girls did their job. Outstanding job by the battery (Annalise and Chelsea). This pair has been amazing all season. Great and timely hitting from the offense and outstanding work from our defense in our 10-0 victory.
We travel Friday to Maranatha High School in Pasadena. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel there.

Another great game for our JV Lady Heralds as we had to play back to back days against our division rivals, Valley Christian. Annalise was in control early on. Aggressive base running and key hits pushed our team to a strong 14-3 win. Great bases clearing triple from Bree broke the game wide open.
Next up is Marantha Minutemen on Tuesday at home. Hope to see you all there.
Great job, Lady Heralds!!

Great game today vs Valley Christian. Our Lady Heralds came out on top 9-3. This team is a rival of ours and was nice to get a great win under our belt. Annalise pitched excellent again. Maddie went 2 for with 2 runs scored. Solid defence from my middle infielders (Lindsay and Krysten). Awesome play by Chelsea to get a runner out at home and in the 7th inning, Emily R. made a fantastic leaping catch at 3B.
We play Valley again tomorrow at 3:30p. Will be alot of fun.

Game day 04/16/13 vs Oxford Academy. We're at home and will be a great game. Game time is 3:15p. Hope to see you all there.

After a nice long break, our Lady Heralds JV Softball is ready to return to the field. We're practicing Monday and Tuesday as we prepare for our game vs St. Matthias on Wednesday and Friday. Help cheer the team on as we play St. Matthias at home on Friday, April 12.

Just a reminder all, that today at NOON is team picture for the JV team. Please be ready to take pictures. Please make sure the form I handed out yesterday is properly filled out. If there are buddy pictures, please make sure we get through them quickly.
We're having practice at our normal time

Impressive win today for our Lady Heralds over Wilson High School. Annalise pitched her heart out. Awesome hitting from Bree Lee and over all, we played solid as a team.
Tomorrow starts the WCHS JV Softball Tournament. Ours start the tournament vs St. Joseph HS @ 3:15p
This is going to be an exciting week for our girls. Let's go Lady Heralds.

First away game. We are at Santa Fe Springs High School. Looking forward to another exciting game.

We had a great weekend lady's. Way to play hard vs Whittier. Way to hang in there, even when they brought down the pitcher from Varsity. Also, great win vs Cerritos. Excellent plays all over the field from all the girls.
Next up: @ Santa Fe Springs HS - 02/26. Bus information will be posted on the board in the locker room.

Our girls are getting ready for their first games over the weekend. Preparing for our season to start. Check back often for Lady Heralds Softball updates.

All players team practice. Good luck Emily R with CIF...Go Heralds Soccer!

REMEMBER: All team work day on Saturday, February 9. Please be at the school by 8a. Bring gloves. We will be setting up our fences, and straightening up our fields. Parents are asked to help out, too.

Great conditioning day, ladies. Way to hang tough through all the stations. All your hard work will payoff in the end. Keep lifting each other in prayer.

It's going to be cold, but a beautiful day to practice. See you all on the practice field. Today is "Fielding Day."
