When lithium-ion batteries are exposed to extreme heat, the chemistry inside gets unstable. If you leave a battery baking in a hot car or direct sunlight, it can lead to thermal runaway: a rapid, unstoppable chain reaction that can cause a fire or explosion.

Don't let your gear become a seasonal hazard. Store your e-bikes, power tools, and lawn equipment in a temperature-controlled space like a basement or cool garage. If a battery has already been "baked" by the heat and won't take a charge or looks swollen, don't just toss it in the trash where it can spark a fire.
