Our hearts are heavy today.

The Desert Storm family joins the entire Lake Havasu and performance boating community in mourning the tragic loss of Chip Romer and Jennifer Luzzi.

Our deepest sympathies go out to their families, friends, and loved ones during an unimaginable time. The boating world is a family, and when we lose members of that family, the loss is felt throughout our entire community.

We are keeping everyone who knew and loved Chip and Jennifer in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace. You will be deeply missed. ❤️

OFFSHORE RACER CHAD HAVENS ACQUIRES DESERT STORM FROM IHRA

Entrepreneur Chad Havens, a lifelong performance powerboater and offshore boat racer, has acquired the Desert Storm Poker Run and Shootout from the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), Speedboat has learned.

The all-cash deal delivers Havens full ownership of the Desert Storm name and brand, along with its social media accounts, digital and physical assets, and the full archive of past events, sponsor and participant records accumulated over more than 25 years. Havens will lead one of American performance boating’s most enduring gatherings and pledges to return the West Coast event to its legendary roots. This promise is welcome news to longtime Desert Storm loyalists.

“Desert Storm didn’t start as a spectacle—it started as boaters, for boaters, on the best performance-boating water in the world,” Havens told Speedboat. “That spirit is what made it legendary, and that’s exactly what we’re bringing back. At the same time, we’re going to grow this thing the right way: more water, more venues, more music, and more reasons for families, spectators, and racers to make Lake Havasu the place to be every spring.”

Based in Orange, TX, Havens has long been immersed in high-performance powerboating, both as a recreational owner and as an active competitor in professional offshore racing. He campaigns a highly modified 40’ Skater pleasure catamaran known as Savage, powered by twin Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines, and has recorded strong speeds at major shootouts including the Texas Outlaw Challenge. In recent seasons he has served as throttleman for the highly competitive Super Stock-class Team Demon Bikini, sharing the cockpit with driver and now Desert Storm partner, Leanna Shadlow in the IHRA and RWO offshore racing series. Beyond the water, Havens has deep roots as a professional cowboy and maintains strong ties to the community.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2026 ELIMINATOR BOATS WESTERN REGATTA!

Join us September 25–27, 2026, at Havasu Riviera Marina as we celebrate 57 years of Eliminator performance, craftsmanship and community.

This three-day weekend brings Eliminator owners and boating enthusiasts together for helicopter photos, river and lake runs, private parties, great food, entertainment and an unforgettable weekend on Lake Havasu.

Boat Registration is $400 and includes:

• One boat slip for Friday and Saturday nights
• Admission for two guests
• Two tickets to Friday night’s Western Welcome Dock Party
• Two tickets to Saturday night’s private Western Regatta Party
• Two official 2026 Western Regatta T-shirts
• One official Regatta swag bag
• One marina vehicle pass
• Access to all official Regatta activities

Weekend highlights include:

Friday morning’s mandatory drivers meeting, helicopter photoshoot and suggested run to Pirate Cove, followed by the Western Welcome Dock Party from 5:00–10:00 PM.

Saturday features a full lake day with fellow Eliminator owners, followed by the private Western Regatta Party from 5:00–10:00 PM.

Sunday wraps up the weekend with one final ride before heading home.

Additional guest passes are available for $50 and include admission to both evening parties and one official event T-shirt. Children 14 and under are free with a registered adult.

Boat slips are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations received after September 1 are not guaranteed a slip, T-shirt or swag bag.

Giving back to those who help keep our waterways safe!

Anderson Powersports Desert Storm proudly donated $8,990 from our auction and raffle proceeds to the Mohave County Sheriff's Dive Team.

This donation helps support the Dive Team's continued efforts to keep our boating community safe. We are honored to give back to the men and women who dedicate their time and expertise to serving our community.
