World Wide Toss & Fetch League: Throwing or Rollers?

Whether you’re brand new to the sport or ready to compete, there’s a place for every dog and handler on the field!

🥏 Regular Throws

* Best for dogs that confidently catch discs in the air.
* Great for experienced teams looking to maximize points.
* Requires good timing, accuracy, and a dog with a reliable retrieve.

🥏 Rollers

* A disc is rolled along the ground instead of thrown through the air.
* Perfect for beginners learning the game.
* Builds confidence while teaching dogs to chase, retrieve, and return the disc.
* An excellent option for older dogs or dogs that prefer to keep all four paws on the ground.

🐶 Puppies
Rollers are the recommended way for puppies to participate until their growth plates have fully developed. Keeping the disc on the ground helps reduce the impact of repeated jumping while they are still growing.

No matter how your team plays—air catches or rollers—the goal is the same: have fun, build teamwork, and enjoy time with your dog!

SPEED RETRIEVE - a new game for Toss and Fetch League!

I sure there will be questions about it, but it could be exciting to include this in our next season (after summer). I will need some time to understand exactly what it entails, but it seems like it would be a lot of fun!!

158 K9 Frisbee Clubs (listed below) are registered for Spring Season of the K9 Frisbee Worldwide League.

Week 1 begins a Week from tomorrow, on Friday April 17 – are you ready to roll?

In League, rolling the disc downfield is an optional way to play, score, earn titles and have fun in League.

If your dog is too young, too old, or just prefers to chase a disc on the ground, Rollers are a legit way to learn the game, play and compete.

Take 1-year-old Duke, for instance. According to his mom Kiley Martzke, “He played rollers through his puppyhood and we are hoping to come back next season catching. He has learned recall, manners and socialized by playing with our wonderful Lake Havasu City Club.”.

🐾 How Roller Play Works

ROLLER Designation, Scoring & Rules

Teams that throw “rollers” (i.e, rolling the disc across the grass) will be, scored, ranked and be eligible to earn Club Points, however, Roller Teams do not receive Division Handicap Points.

A Roller Team must declare at the beginning of a Season. A Team cannot switch to a Roller Team mid-season.

A Team that opts to play under the ROLLER designation must do so for an entire season.

A Roller Team may make air throws within the course of a season, in which case they can earn a 1/2 point Air Bonus for leaping catches.

Handlers who play with multiple dogs may designate one or all of their dogs as ROLLER Teams. Non-roller Teams will earn the appropriate handicap points for their Division.

A Tiny Dog (TD) Roller Team earns one TD Bonus point per catch, but cannot exceed 27.5 points in any single round.

All other Toss & Fetch rules apply for ROLLER Teams, accept for the ability to earn ½-point “air” bonuses.

🎯 Judging Rollers (Simple & Fair)
In judging rollers, please follow these guidelines:

A roller is “live” and can be caught by the dog as long as the disc is rolling, in motion, when caught by the dog.

The disc is considered “dead” when the disc stops moving.

Regular Zone scoring applies, based on the dog's trailing paw when the roller is caught. At least one paw must be in-bounds to count, even if the disc has rolled out-of-bounds.

Judges will make the determination as to when a roller is “live” or “dead”. A roller too close to be called will be ruled in favor of the dog.

Judges decisions are final.
