A big congratulations to Oliver ‘Wolfman’ Kostella for earning his Black Belt. His exemplary work ethic and strength of character is to be admired. Here is his essay:

Without Karate Beyond I would still be shy with no confidence. I was just 4 years old when I started.
The physical and mental benefits I gained applies to every part of my life. Especially Baseball. Not only for the physical strength, but mental strength too. It helped me with public speaking and my social life.
Inside Karate Beyond I feel at home. I am not only a student learning kicks and punches, but I am building my leadership skills. Outside of the dojo I feel more confident even when I’m out of my comfort zone.
My future plans as a person with martial arts skills is to be a leader. In school or the ball field, I’ll encourage my teammates; lift them up even if things didn’t go our way. I hope to display calm and show my leadership skills through confidence. All the years at Karate Beyond gave me focus and discipline to achieve my goals and to be an encouraging friend.
When I become a black belt, I want to become an instructor at Karate Beyond and help younger students. Earning my black belt will show others that it is possible for them too.
For me the black belt is another beginning.

Congratulations to our very own Johnathan ‘Silverback’ Marzano for earning his Black Belt. Here is his essay:

I began looking into karate when I was 12 years old. I picked three places to look at, and Karate Beyond was the first place I
visited. After my first class, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
We signed up, and my journey began.
I was 12 years old, overweight and awkward when I came to Karate Beyond. I was always picked last, but I never felt left out. The other students showed me that I could overcome my fears and succeed. Their encouragement helped me feel better about myself mentally. As time went on, I lost weight and grew taller.
Being in a judgment-free atmosphere gave me more confidence in and out of class. While I was in the leadership class, I learned how to hold my head up and speak confidently. This class really
helped me become less afraid to speak up, make eye contact, and be the first to greet someone.
Karate Beyond has helped me mature a lot. I am much more confident in who I am and in my abilities. I am not afraid to fail. I
know I will keep trying until I get it right. I understand that I must work hard and that things don’t come easy.
- Johnathan Marzano
