Heartbreaking to share that we lost a bright light in the SlamBall family. Scott Campbell, an all-time great SlamBall player and world champion in 2008, unexpectedly passed away this weekend. Scotty was a wonderful friend to so many of us and a joyful presence in many of our lives.
He came to SlamBall with a natural facility for the sport, an effortless southern confidence, and he was an absolute winner. Scotty led his SLASHERS team alongside Adam Ho**er, to back to back finals appearances, capturing the title in Series 3. It was a 1-2 punch in the closing moments to seal the title, with Ho**er making an unbelievable stop and Campbell scoring the game winning points on the other end off of a broken play (pictured).
Scotty brought his brother Chris into the sport, where he had a great impact as well. Chris’ MOB team was bested narrowly by the SLASHERS in the playoffs on the way to the finals.
Scotty Campbell also was a tremendous ambassador for the sport overseas, especially in a series of arena tours of China that heavily featured the high-flying gunner.
Whether it was playing cards or having long conversations about life and possibilities, Scotty had a way of making you feel important, and his cool confidence always made you think things would turn out alright.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Scott’s family, children, and loved ones.
