Cathedral Gorge is located in a long, narrow valley where erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft bentonite clay. Trails abound for exploring the cave-like formations and cathedral-like spires. 🏜️

Miller Point, a scenic overlook just north of the park entrance on U.S. 93, offers excellent views of the scenic canyon. Shaded picnic areas and a tree-shaded campground area are open all year. 🌳🍂

A Regional Visitor Center at the entrance offers interpretive displays and info about eastern Nevada and seven state parks. 📚

Nature of the Area:
- Erosion sculpted dramatic spires and deep canyons out of soft bentonite clay. 🌋
- Vegetation includes wildflowers, yucca, juniper trees, sagebrush, and more. 🌼🌵
- Wildlife includes black-tailed jack-rabbits, cottontail rabbits, coyotes, kit foxes, and numerous bird species. 🦊🐦

History of the Area:
- Inhabited by Native American groups such as the Paiute for thousands of years. 🏞️
- Settled by Mormon pioneers in the 19th century. ⛪
- Named after Ward Miller, who advocated preservation efforts. 🛠️

Among the several state parks clustered around the towns of Caliente and Pioche, Cathedral Gorge may be the region’s crown jewel, thanks to spectacular slot canyons, spires, “hoodoos,” and otherworldly erosional features. To get the lay of the land, start at Miller Point Overlook. 🌅🏞️
