Let's Bring Parkrun To Las Vegas

Hi all - due to some messages we thought it woul make sense to clarify the situation on this event

Due to changes in priorities the team working on this event were unable to get going again post COVID. As such there is nobody working on starting an event

We kept the page open in case any other Las Vegas locals would express and interest in taking an event forward. Please let us know

Hi Las Vegas parkrunners!

Harry and Andrew have been working hard over the past few weeks to make the arrangements to make this a reality. Forms, permits, insurance, risk assessments. It's all important stuff which has to be done.

We are getting closer to launch!

However parkrun would not be possible without the team of volunteers who attend events to help with time-keeping and general coordination. Here's what an event of our size would generally needs:

Run Director (the boss!)
Time keeper (the most important one for those of us who are competitive!)
Barcode scanner (makes sure you get your results on email)
Token keeper (closely guards our valuable asset of finish tokens - more on that later)
Tail walker (brings up the rear and makes sure everyone gets around the course while enjoying a more gentle pace)

As you can see, these are all important roles and can be undertaken by anyone while getting a great sense of inclusion.

We have a number of you who are really keen to see a parkrun in Las Vegas get launched, would you be able to help out on occasion or do you have a non-running friend or family member who would be able to assist?

We are not looking to ask people to commit to volunteering each and every week, just once every few weeks would be great, the more the better!

Please comment below if you would like to help, or know someone who could. There's no commitment at this time, we just need to grow our volunteer pool!

Did you see us down at Wobble Gobble today? It's a great event to get people active but imagine if you could join a run like that every week, for free. That'd be great, right?

Well you can! Follow our page and come join us for a Saturday morning run around KZ. It'll cost you $0 forever!

You won't get a free t-shirt or a flashy medal but you'll get a great sense of achievement and meet with others reaching their goals.

There will be another practise parkrun tomorrow at 8am! It is a completely relaxed run/jog/walk and a great chance to have a chat with others. Feel free to join and share!

The event will remain unofficial for a few more months until we build a big enough pool of regulars to turn the event official 🥳 Have a great weekend!

Introducing your team....

We'd like to bring you an update on our progress and introduce you to the team behind "Let's Bring Parkrun To Las Vegas"

Andrew - a Brit who's lived in Vegas for the past 2 1/2 years and is a passionate Parkrunner. Definitely couldn't manage a 5k run before he was introduced to Parkrun.

Harry - recent transplant to Vegas and another Brit who is also a long time fan of Parkrun.

Harry and Andrew will be your Event Directors which means they're the ones who will be organizing the parmits with CLV in order to make this dream a reality.

We also have a handful of volunteers already interested who will work with us once we get the event up and running (pun very much intended). To run a Parkrun event, we need a minimum of 5 volunteers each week to oversee the event, take timings, etc. It's a fun role and you get to cheer on your loved ones and everyone else.

Parkrun's philosophy is that these events are fun, friendly and free. Free is the next point. We will need to raise funds. Don't panic, we're not asking anyone on this page to put their hands in their pockets! Funds are needed to buy the equipment and pay for the permits and insurance we'll need to hold. We'll be looking to local businesses for sponsorship.

If you know of any local businesses who might be interested in sponsoring the events, please contact us! If you want to help Andrew and Harry with the formalities to get this started, please get in touch.

In closing, it would be great to get an understanding of what interest there is out there for volunteers. By way of a show of hands (or likes), could you, or do you know anyone who might be able to lend a hand with one of our volunteer roles? We're not asking for commitment now. Just to know that perhaps we have the interest to run these events each week.

Hello Las Vegas!

Did you see me on Kellog Zaher Soccer Complex this morning giving out flyers?

Wfat is Parkrun? It's a fun, weekly, timed running event that's always free. It's a 5k (3 miles) run that happens all around the world every Saturday morning. There's no pressure or commitment and you get your results by email later that day.

Why am I so passionate about this? I was introduced to Parkrun 5 years ago. I couldn't really run but tried. I can now easily run up to 10 miles. I was a Parkrunner in the UK and have toured many different events around the world. It's a very friendly community and unlike any other organized running events in Las Vegas, it's totally free.

What's the catch? There really isn't one! Once we launch here in Las Vegas, you simply sign up online. It will never cost you a cent and you're not hassled by marketing trash. Parkrun wouldn't be possible without our volunteers so each week having a friend or family member along to help timekeeping would always be appreciated!

What's next? Over the next few weeks there will be a number of practice runs as we grow the team. Come along, look out for the events on this page.
