Look at that smile. ๐Ÿ˜‚โ™ฅ๏ธ She was laughing her way through her float like this was the best part of her day.

We practice in clothes because real-life water accidents donโ€™t usually happen in swimsuits โ€” and seeing her this confident using her skills makes me so proud. ๐Ÿฆฆ

And there are only

Fall is actually one of my favorite times of year for kids to learn self-rescue swimming skills.

One big reason?

During the summer, kids may be swimming at home, at grandparentsโ€™ houses, on vacation, or at the neighborhood pool โ€” sometimes practicing completely different habits than what weโ€™re working to build in lessons.

In the fall, we get more consistency.

That gives kids a great opportunity to lock in their swim-float-swim skills, build muscle memory, and become more confident and independent in the water.

And no worries about chilly fall water โ€” ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ, so we can keep swimmers comfortable while they learn. ๐Ÿ’™

Iโ€™m a ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—œ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜€ยฎ ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ, which means my training goes far beyond traditional swim instruction.

Infant Aquaticsยฎ instructors receive extensive hands-on, in-water training along with education in ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ผ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐˜†๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด๐˜†, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜† โ€” specifically as those things relate to teaching infants and young children.

That matters when youโ€™re teaching something as important as aquatic self-rescue.

Iโ€™m not simply teaching your child a sequence of movements. Iโ€™m looking at ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ โ€” how they learn, how they respond, what theyโ€™re physically capable of, and what theyโ€™re emotionally ready for โ€” and adjusting instruction accordingly.

And completing the New Swimmer Program isnโ€™t the end of the journey.

Once a swimmer completes the New Swimmer Program or Refresher Session, they can move into a

At first, Progression is all about strengthening the skills they already have:

๐Ÿ’ฆ Building swimming endurance
๐Ÿ’ฆ Increasing confidence and independence
๐Ÿ’ฆ Swimming longer distances
๐Ÿ’ฆ Strengthening floats and transitions
๐Ÿ’ฆ Improving body position and efficiency
๐Ÿ’ฆ Becoming stronger and more comfortable in the water

And thereโ€™s a reason I love doing this in ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐˜€.

Kids learn so much from watching and swimming alongside other kids. They see their friends try something new, cheer each other on, and often become more willing to challenge themselves because someone beside them is doing it too.

Groups also give swimmers something private lessons canโ€™t recreate in quite the same way โ€” opportunities to ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด, ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐˜€๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€, ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ป๐˜€, ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ.

Itโ€™s amazing to watch a swimmer think, โ€œ๐—œ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—ถ๐˜, ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐—œ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ผ.โ€

That positive peer influence makes Progression Groups not only fun and social, but an incredibly valuable part of becoming a stronger swimmer. ๐Ÿ’™

Thereโ€™s no rush to get there.

And another benefit of starting in the fall?

Our swimmers return in March to sharpen those skills and prepare for another busy swimming season, while continuing to build through Progression.

The goal at South Shore Infant Aquatics isnโ€™t just to teach your child what to do if they accidentally end up in the water.

Itโ€™s to give them a strong self-rescue foundation and then continue building until they become ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ด, ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜„๐—ถ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€. ๐Ÿ’™

Wednesdays are better with friends. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’ฆ

These boys already have their self-rescue skills down โ€” now Progression Groups are where we get to build on them.

More strength. More confidence. More endurance. And plenty of opportunities to push themselves, try new things, and keep becoming stronger swimmersโ€ฆ with a little fun mixed in. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿฆฆ

Progression Groups are for swimmers who have already completed their survival swim training. New swimmers start with our New Swimmer Program to build those lifesaving skills first.

Because swimming is just more fun with friends. ๐Ÿ’™

08/14/2026

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hi! Iโ€™m Candice โ€” the face behind South Shore Infant Aquatics. ๐Ÿ’™

If youโ€™ve been around for a while, you probably already know I spend a lot of my life in a swimsuit, in the pool, convincing tiny humans to do very important things. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ฆ

Iโ€™m a ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—œ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜€ ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜, which means I teach babies and young children real survival swimming skills.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Babies learn to roll back, float, breathe, and stay there until help arrives.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Toddlers and young children learn to swim, roll back to float and breathe, then keep swimming toward safety.

And every kiddo learns differently.

Some are cautious. Some need time to decide whether they trust this whole swimming situation. Others are ready to launch themselves into the pool like theyโ€™ve been waiting their whole life for this moment. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thatโ€™s one of my favorite parts of what I do: ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ.

There isnโ€™t one personality a child has to have to be successful, and there isnโ€™t one exact way every lesson has to look. We adjust, encourage, play, build trust, and keep moving forward while teaching the skills they need to be safer around water.

Because survival swim can be serious without every lesson feeling serious. ๐Ÿค

And once those survival skills are solid, the fun keeps going!

Our ๐—•๐—ฒ๐˜†๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐˜€ bring 2โ€“4 swimmers together to build strength, endurance, confidence, and more advanced skills alongside friends. Kids encourage each other, celebrate each other, and are often more willing to try something new when they see a friend do it first.

A little teamwork, a little friendly motivation, and a lot of โ€œokay, if they can do it, I can too!โ€ energy. ๐Ÿ’™

My goal is to help create capable, confident swimmers who genuinely LOVE being in the water. ๐Ÿฆฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ

So thatโ€™s me: self-rescue swim instructor, tiny-human cheerleader, and professional toy retriever.

If youโ€™re new here, welcome! ๐Ÿ’™ Iโ€™m so glad you found us.

Small groups are officially underway this week and I LOVE this part. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฆฆ

Was it perfectly organized every second? Absolutely not. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Sometimes it was a little chaoticโ€”but honestly, thatโ€™s part of the fun.

Thereโ€™s something so great about watching swimmers learn alongside each other, cheer each other on, build confidence, and realize they can do things that felt hard not that long ago.

Progress is FUN. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

These groups are all about taking those hard-earned survival skills and continuing to buildโ€”more strength, more endurance, more independence, and a whole lot more confidence in the water.

Iโ€™m so excited to see how much these little otters grow this fall! ๐Ÿฆฆโœจ

Our very FIRST Progression Group class is in the books and wow was it so much fun! I loved seeing each of these swimmers try new things and push themselves further than they ever have.

Thereโ€™s still plenty of time to sign your kiddo up! We will be swimming until Thanksgiving. The only requirement is that they are 18 months or older and have gone through a New Swimmer or Refresher Program this season.

Tomorrow brings more sweet friends and I canโ€™t wait to watch them grow together! ๐Ÿฆฆ

08/05/2026

We left a little piece of our hearts at the Frio, but weโ€™re home, refreshed, and excited to get back in the pool with our swimmers! ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™ll be swimming Thursday and Friday this week, so send me a message if you need to confirm your lesson time. Canโ€™t wait to see everyone! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿฆฆ

Vacation mode: activated. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’™

Jude is floating down the Frio River, and weโ€™re soaking up a few days of family time! Cell service is basically nonexistent out here, so I may be slower than usual to respond to messages. Iโ€™ll catch up when we return next week!

Until then, weโ€™ll be right hereโ€”going with the flow. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

07/22/2026

Pinching myself a little because Iโ€™ve been so lucky to have Rae from hanging out with me at the pool the past two evenings! ๐Ÿ’™

The kids were in for a treat tooโ€”they got to learn some new things, show off their skills, and probably received a few surprise toys here and there. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Cynthia from joined us Monday night too, but of course we were having so much fun that we completely forgot to take a photo!

So grateful for these friendships, the chance to learn from one another, and a community of instructors who truly want to help each other grow and serve more families. ๐Ÿฆฆ ๐ŸŒŠ
