If you are a postpartum runner (child less than 36 months) this could help future runners!

Tomorrow night we’ll be dancing away the summer bbq’s! Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the RAVE!
Hi! I’m moving to Herndon in a few weeks and am looking to connect to a local group. Is this chapter the closest to me?
Is there one for Dads?
Is there somewhere I can see the full calendar of March classes?

3 Moves to Relieve Sciatic Pain

Many prenatal women experience back pain during pregnancy and the most common cause is sciatica. Sciatica during pregnancy is typically caused by the uterus pressing down on the sciatic nerve; this increased pressure causes pain, tingling, or numbness in the lower back and thighs. It may affect one or both sides of the body and can cause much discomfort.

To alleviate some of this discomfort, try these three exercises to release pain and tension:
- Seated Figure 4 Stretch
- Low Lunge
- Lat Stretch using a Table or Chair

You can also try the other at-home remedies:
- Use a warm compress
- Rest in a comfortable position
- Place a pillow between your legs to align your pelvis and alleviate some of the pressure off the nerve

Working with health and fitness professionals that specialize in helping women with this issue is also an option. Seeing a certified Women's Health Physical Therapist will help your body relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve, and re-teach your body how to move in the right way without increasing discomfort.

You are not alone when it comes to dealing with sciatica in pregnancy. There is no need to just "grit your teeth and bear it". You deserve to have a healthy, happy, and comfortable pregnancy.

To read more on sciatic pain and remedies, check out our blog post: https://fit4mom.com/blog/3-exercises-to-relieve-back-pain-in-pregnancy "

And if you’re looking for other women currently expecting to connect to during your journey into motherhood (or for a 2nd or 3rd+ time!), try a prenatal strength class on Thursdays at 7:00 PM!

April is National Minority Health Month. The disparity in healthcare between races is evident for mothers: For every 100,000 live births, there are 13 pregnancy-related deaths among whites women, however, there are 41 pregnancy-related deaths among Black Women.

Help us recognize this month's cause, and you can do so by purchasing the FIT4MOM Womankind T-shirt. A portion of sales will be donated to Black Women's Health Imperative, a national organization dedicated to improving the health and wellness of Black women and girls in the U.S.

The @blkwomenshealth was founded by Byllye Avery, a Black American health care activist and a leader in the movement to bring Black women of all economic strata in the U.S. together over issues of health and wellness. Presently, the organization is dedicated to promoting physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being for the nation’s 19.5 million African American women and girls.

Today is World Autism Day and the month of April is Autism Awareness Month.

At FIT4MOM, following the lead of many others, we would like to reframe this as Autism acceptance instead of just awareness, and commit to educating ourselves, and our children, about the acceptance of autism. As a brand that values kindness and inclusion, we believe in celebrating each other’s differences and being kind and accepting of autistic people every single day, as they have the ability to change our world. 🌎

If you're newly postpartum, it's important to give yourself plenty of grace, rest, and proper time to heal✨Each birth and recovery story is different. Once you feel ready to start moving (and your doctor approves!), that's when you know it's the right time for your body. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), recommends exercise for new moms because it can:
• Boost energy levels
• Promote better sleep
• Relieve stress
• Prevent postpartum depression

One Year Ago

It’s been exactly one year since we had to change our entire business model overnight. A business borne on face to face connections with other moms, we had NO idea what we were in for.

Admittedly, it wasn’t easy at first, but here at FIT4MOM we know we have to get uncomfortable in order to see the magic happen.

And that’s exactly what we’ve seen - moms have continued to come together both virtually and in person (socially distanced of course) in a way we never knew possible, supporting and encouraging each other through a pandemic and motherhood.

We are excited to see where we go from here!

International Women’s Day, a global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women, took place for the first time on March 8, 1911 (History, 2021).

Every year, we partner with the global International Women's Day campaign, and this year, the IWD theme is #ChooseToChallenge; a challenged world is an alert world.

Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequity. We can choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements.

Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.

Strike the #ChooseToChallenge pose
Raise your hand assertively and show that you choose to challenge inequity.

Show your solidarity in choosing to challenge and call out aspects that are unhelpful to women.

Will you raise your hand high and pledge to #ChooseToChallenge?

Show us your #ChooseToChallenge pose so we can unite as a strong FIT4MOM community (and see & share!); tag us @fit4mom_ashburn + @fit4momhq + @internationalwomensday_global
