Today we celebrated the end of the 30 in 50 challenge and unofficial start of Summer with a parking lot ride and raffle to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Thanks to the generous donations of local businesses and the CycleLuv family, we raised an astounding $1,587!
Thank you, first and foremost, to the Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery for the grand prize worth over $2,000. That raffle bag filled up quickly!
We are extremely grateful to the other small businesses who donated as well: Spanky's Shenanigans, Rocket Fizz, Captain Catoctin's, Gidget's Beauty Box, Happy Creek, Hideaway Massage, Bicycle Outfitters, Firebirds, Studio Pink Fit, Prestige Pilates, Loudoun Rugby, Justin Lough Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Deli South, Greenheart Juice, and Ashburn Wine Shop. And even a couple of the local big businesses with big hearts-the wonderful staff at Starbucks Leesburg and DICK'S Sporting Goods.
Thank you, also, to all the CycleLuv members and staff who donated amazing baskets filled with tons of cool stuff and for their immense generosity in buying raffle tickets and a seat at the big outdoor ride today.
Thank you to everyone who helped set up and clean up and everyone who showed up because I truly can't do any of this without you. It takes a lot of people doing a lot of work to make an event like this successful.
Finally, I have to thank the adorable CycleLuv kids (ages 2-15) who helped with the raffle and our Leesburg neighbors and community who cheered us on or stopped by to dance and celebrate with us.
Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone, and congratulations, once again, to the 31 CycleLuvers who successfully completed the 2017 30-in-50-Days Challenge. You rock!

One of the first questions I ask clients, is if they know what neutral spine/pelvis is. Neutral spine is important to know how to find, but so few people have been educated about what it is or how to find it.

Here is another great abdominal exercise that is PT inspired! It's an advanced version of the Dead Bug, which is normally done with the legs bent at 90 degrees in a table top position. Straightening the legs takes this exercise to another level!
(If you are unable to keep the pelvis stabilized, and your upper back connected to the ground, then stick with the legs at 90 until you are strong enough. Safety first!)

Since I moved to administration at Biomechanic Physical Therapy, I've been trying to be good about doing exercises for my upper back since we all know how terrible sitting in a chair is for us!
In a therapy setting, these positions are usually done with the forehead resting on a towel, and there is a rest in between positions. Here, Olivia is slightly lifted challenging the back extensors while working scapular stabilization, making this an extremely effective exercise for the upper/mid back!
