The Loudoun Aces 12U Blue team is a highly competitive travel baseball team dedicated to excelling in baseball with an emphasis on personal growth and community involvement.
This team has had an unforgettable week playing in Cooperstown. What better way to wrap up your baseball season than by playing in Dreams Park? And the icing on the cake was placing 3rd out of 104 teams.
Now that the 2018-2019 season has come to an end, this will be our last post. We have loved documenting our team’s fall and spring seasons here on our page.
This Loudoun Aces 12U Blue team has experienced an incredible year of baseball and these boys have made memories together on and off the field that will last a lifetime.
Loudoun Aces Blue finished first in NVTBL’s Metro standings for 12U. Our record for the spring season was 33-9. The team went 9-2 in Cooperstown. But the boys won’t remember the statistics. Instead, they’ll remember the moments that molded them into ball players and banded them into brothers.
This team experienced a lot of success but it also experienced heartbreaking losses as well. And those losses helped fuel the fire of this team’s players. The players learned to battle from behind, they learned to pick each other up and to be accountable for their own mistakes, and they learned to play smarter and more aggressively. They also realized that you have to win and lose together as a team. They played hard and with heart. We had several parents and coaches in Cooperstown tell us what good sportsmanship our boys had during the games. What more could you ask for?
Some people may not understand why, as parents of players, we spend so much of our lives at practices and games and baseball-related events. We constantly talk baseball, cheer loud for baseball, and pretty much breathe baseball during the season. But it’s much more complicated than just simply liking a game. Baseball is our boys’ passion and when they fell in love with baseball, we did too. Even if you played baseball as a child or young adult, it’s different watching it through your child’s eyes.
As adults, we have the gift of perspective. We know that baseball is more than just a game. It’s a reminder of the lessons we should all learn in life: be a good teammate/friend, show respect, be confident in your strengths, accept and work on your weaknesses, be a leader, have a good attitude, lift others up, fight hard for what you want, be humble, forgive and move on, believe in yourself, show up and work hard, learn to lose and win with grace, and, most importantly, laugh and have fun.
These boys have grown so much over the past couple of years, physically and mentally, and the Cooperstown tournament was their final goodbye to the small field. One of the Cooperstown Dreams Park mantras is “living the dream” and this team certainly did that this week as each and every one of them showcased their talents to teams all over the country and displayed their love for the game with humility and respect. They will now all transition to the big field next season, where they will remain as long as they continue to play baseball.
We’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to our coaches...
Notre Dame Coach Ara Parseghian said, “A good coach will make his players see what they can be rather than what they are.”
Manager Wayne Griffin and coaches John Lee and Eric Marshall, THANK YOU for seeing these boys as what they can be. Thank you for giving these boys a solid foundation and for preparing them for the next level of play.
Our manager Wayne Griffin cares about each and every one of these boys and through the time and effort he has put into coaching, he has given them the gift of playing successful baseball at an elite level and also knowing that you must respect your teammates and the game. He has taught these boys that being good men is more important than being good ball players. He has put his blood, sweat and tears into the training and development of these boys and the parents are grateful for the strong and binding influence he has had and will continue to have in the boys’ lives.
Assistant Coach John Lee has worked hard to teach these boys how to play smarter, run faster, and train better. John has made them a more successful team by showing them how to use their heads and play more efficiently. He has led their warmups and encouraged them to take better care of themselves. He has shared helpful tips and videos with the boys about how to be more effective hitters and fielders. Also, he always has cool shoes.
Assistant Coach Eric Marshall has been the fire these boys needed in the dugout. He got them pumped up, and he encouraged them to pick themselves and each other up. On all of our recorded games, you can always hear Coach Marshall loudly and excitingly cheering on the boys! He is also the first to the field and has consistently been ready and willing to prep the field and get everything in order for the boys. Coach Marshall has done our GameChanger all year, which our team and fans have greatly appreciated.
This has been a special group of kids and we have become a close-knit baseball family. It is bittersweet to be going in different directions next season but, collectively, we will continue to root every one of these boys on as they forge their own paths in baseball and in life. We are all thankful for the time we have spent as a team and we are very grateful to our friends, family, and sponsors for believing in these players and for enthusiastically cheering them on all year!

The boys will no longer be wearing Aces jerseys but we’re certain that their Aces memories will always be part of who they are and will become. Good luck to these players as they join new teams and the hard work on the big field begins. May they always love baseball the way they have as 12-year-old boys!
Thanks again to Jim McNeill for being our team umpire this week!
