Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga - An IMPERFECT Return to Practice ( Moderate Pace)

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga - An IMPERFECT Return to Practice ( Moderate Pace)

If you find this particular pace of practice inaccessible to you at this time, no worries. I will be creating other videos of this practice at a pace that is more assessable for beginners or those returning to their practice.

Feel free to watch just so that you understand the pattern of this style of practice and we can grow together.

If you are watching or practicing along know that we do 5 Sun Salutations A followed by 5 Sun Salutations B before we begin changing and moving thru new postures. This can be redundant to watch and even feel like eternity when your first adapting to this practice but the repeat ion is necessary to warm up the body before moving thru the next phases.

Breathe. Be patient. All is coming.

Yin yoga slows us down and allows us to become very familiar with sitting, being and breathing. It requires much mental fortitude and resilience to stay with a calm and steady breath in the practice of yin yoga.

If you find this practice challenging, know you are not alone and this is normal. ❤️

Slow Flow - Vinyasa Flow Yoga (Slower Pace) for Beginners Looking for Strength

Good Morning, Yogis!

Today is the day of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.

In acknowledgment of that, let’s bring a little additional heat and fire to our practice with a little vinyasa flow by adding some challenge with new shapes and postures.

If you are new to yoga, take it slow. This is just an opportunity to experience something different, new and build up a little strength and resilience.

Remember to take breaks when needed and have fun!

Happy Holidays, Yogis!

Today as I was listening to audible this quote struck me so powerfully and I’d love to share it with you.

“What is will? It is the attempt to direct one’s energy within the unlimited unfolding of the universe in order to join in harmony with this unfolding in the direction of one’s doing.”

— Be Water, My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee by Shannon Lee

During this season of transition to winter, take some time to pause and really notice the areas where you can use the essence of your will to melt into the natural unfolding rhythm of your life.

Notice how the practice of melting into these spaces is not an either or practice.

Just as music contains both notes and spaces between the notes, beats and spaces between the beats, such is the vibrational frequency of our unique, gifted purpose.

It takes a delicate balance between softening into our experience, letting go of any labels, identities and judgements that may inhibit our greater purpose while at the same time practicing resilience, focus, and dedication.

How can you practice being in harmony with your purpose?

If you’re seeking opportunities to grow and develop a deeper relationship with yourself and discover your purpose, as always know you are not alone.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

In the upcoming new year I will be holding space for 1-2 students who would like to take the journey of individual self transformation.

When you are ready, I am here.

In the mean time I am still offering private yoga classes and have space for one more student.

If you are not yet ready for that commitment I do have some new classes available on YouTube for you to practice along to as well as a couple of in person events.

Upcoming In Person Events:
January 8 - Petals & Poses at Lost Rhino Brewery

The kidneys are seen as the energy reserve pack in Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing us with vitality and endurance when we truly need it. Yet, if we continually tap into that energy reserve, functioning beyond what our metabolic capacity can sustain, we start to feel depleted… Establishing practices to support and revitalize this energy is essential to finding balance within the body and helps to protect our essence (aka life-force) that is ruled by this Water element.

Water • Winter • Yin • Kidney
The Kidney meridian can be found below the ball of the foot in the center hollow and traces through to the inside of the arch, coming up and around the inner ankle bone on the medial side of the leg. It then traces through the ‘meaty’ part of the calf muscle, finding the tendons right behind the knee and up through the inner hamstring.Through the pelvic floor, emerging above the p***c bone and continuing up the abdomen, through the ribs where it moves just slightly more lateral, tracing up the sternum and ending right under the clavicles just outside of the sternum.

This deeply Yin element is impacted most by overworking and a general sense of running on empty. And with the emotion associated with this element being fear, an imbalance in the kidneys can also be detrimental to our well-being. The ultimate way to nourish the kidneys → introspection and simplicity

When the Kidney meridian is flowing freely all processes and functions within the body are supported, connecting the mind, body and spirit. Providing the driving force of Qi energy and will power, the kidneys can take time to become depleted, so when they are suspected of depletion it is essential to take the time regularly to replenish.

How to replenish your Kidney Meridian:
💫Restorative Practices
💫Forward Folds
💫Self Refection + Journaling
💫Breath Work
💫MFR on the center of the foot where this meridian begins
💫Conscious awareness of energy output & input

Find ways to add simplicity in your life this winter as you make room for the introspective shift and nourish your internal essence. AND as a special treat, join us tomorrow as we begin our #HoldSpaceForYourself challenge and focus on refueling the kidneys 👊

“Play is the highest form of research.”
- Albert Einstein

This is where children hold the most valuable lessons. Let us cherish and remember the wisdom of their (and our) youth.

Without play we can experience burnout and can easily fall into states of anxiety or depression.

Inviting playfulness into our daily activities holds the door open to experience a fuller range of possibilities in this life - the messier the play, the more lessons learned and new neuro-pathways created.

One of the core principles of Life Balance Yoga is to invite playfulness into the moments when you feel most out of balance. Being out of balance is not an err but rather an opportunity to learn how to reclaim balance. When infused with playfulness and ease, you can find a lightness of heart and mind, thereby providing an opportunity to grow and heal.

Let’s play together

This was our largest Petals & Poses turnout so far - and this is even with a few who had to leave early and a few who couldn’t make it at the last minute.

Community. Connection. Healing. Creativity. Peace. Joy. Love.

This is why we gather.

As Bessel A. Van der Kolk says in his book The Body Keeps the Score,

“The brain-disease model overlooks four fundamental truths: (1) our capacity to destroy one another is matched by our capacity to heal one another. Restoring relationships and community is central to restoring well-being; (2) language gives us the power to change ourselves and others by communicating our experiences, helping us to define what we know, and finding a common sense of meaning; (3) we have the ability to regulate our own physiology, including some of the so-called involuntary functions of the body and brain, through such basic activities as breathing, moving, and touching; and (4) we can change social conditions to create environments in which children and adults can feel safe and where they can thrive.

When we ignore these quintessential dimensions of humanity, we deprive people of ways to heal from trauma and restore their autonomy.”

Everyone who came together to share community yesterday came with an intention to connect, feel more and experience life more fully and we did exactly that.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to co-host these events with Angela Rabena of @blooms2u and look forward to the next!

Keep shining!

Not broken.

Just healing.

So often times the greatest conflict we experience is within ourselves.

The inner dialogue we hold for ourselves is the exact conversation we will have with others outside of ourselves.

How can you cultivate a safer space for healing?

A more loving space?

A kind space?

A space free of judgement and shame?

You start by focusing on the conversation you have with yourself.

We can choose every moment, every breath how we will show up for ourselves and for others.

Let’s choose kindness.

Let’s choose love.

Let’s choose understanding.

A few months ago I had to back off my physical focus and dedicate my time and attention to vestibular (+auditory) and vision therapies. Now that my vision, auditory and vestibular (balance) systems have found some healing it’s back to PT I go.

This is week two and I’ve already seen so much progress. The team here has guided me with a kindness and gentleness I never even knew was possible outside of the yoga studio

It has been such a long journey since I first walked thru the doors leading to the Inova Concussion clinic to continue this path of healing.

Today I am stronger than that first day with fewer symptom flairs and I am so grateful to be able to continue to share the journey of healing with you so if you too find yourself in a place in a healing, you can have hope.

What’s love got to do with it?

Love is the catalyst for healing and the space needed for creation and growth.

Our natural creative energy is blocked when we are in spaces where we feel unsafe, unloved or misunderstood.

The practices of meditation, breath work, and yoga help us see more clearly where we can invite more breath into the spaces that are “sticky” or the spaces where we notice “conflict” (aka spaces where we do not feel safe - this can also look like a space where you feel judged or misunderstood).

It is thru this mindful conversation and connection within ourself where we cultivate deeper understanding as we experience the fullest spectrum of life’s offerings.

It is also in that space where we can transmute pain and suffering by way of harmonization so we can experience creation and thereby experience more joy in our lives.

Only 3 tickets remain for the last Petals & Poses before the holiday season sets upon us. Join us for community, connection, creation and joy.

About Me:

The story of a breath and movement artist, teacher, student of life and spiritual guide.

My relationship with yoga and spiritual journey first began in 2005. After taking only one class, I noticed a significant reduction in the debilitating back pain and chronic stress from which I had been suffering. To continue with my self-care, I began a regular practice and fell in love with the calming affects, personal awareness and overall benefits yoga brought to my life.

After ten years of exploring this relationship, I dedicated my life fully to exploring the art of yoga and strive daily to gain a greater understanding of its effects on the human composition. Today, I am a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and hold certificates as E-RYT® 200 and YACEP® with additional training and certificates in Stand Up Paddleboard yoga (SUP) and Trauma Informed Yoga.

I teach a prana based yoga, utilizing breath as a guide for all movement. Prana is our greatest life force, it is THE energy of all life. The physical practice of yoga supports mindfulness and meditation by practicing focusing on your breath on purpose even as you move from space to space/ posture by posture. By reawakening this connection between your body and mind, you will find the space between stimulus and response. My classes are challenging, yet accessible, uplifting yet grounding. Your experience will take you beyond the physical aspects of yoga where you’ll find a sacred space deep within yourself.

My mission as a teacher is to grow and support healthy, mindful, peaceful communities by providing yoga, meditation and healing arts to space seekers, high-school students and their communities.
