This Edition Ending Soon "Whenever I wear my 'Story' shirt, I feel I am wearing a collection of untold stories of fighters. It seems every name on the back of my shirt is whispering to me their story... and supporting me and telling me I am not alone in this. They seem to have my back, literally!" - Amelia R

Having children with a narcissist

Imagine a man robbing you of so many tender moments of your motherhood because instead of being supported, you were being traumatized.

The quiet mornings when you could have held your child close, the first steps, the bedtime stories, the laughter that should have filled your home—he stole them. Not with force, but with neglect, criticism, and emotional harm that left you constantly on edge. Every opportunity for joy became weighed down by fear, frustration, or sadness. The love you wanted to pour freely was met with resistance, judgment, or apathy, and you were forced to navigate motherhood in a fog of pain that should never have existed.

This is the tragedy of being undermined when you are supposed to be uplifted. The moments you carry in your heart are scarred, not by your own failings, but by someone who chose to make your life harder instead of easier. And yet, even in that loss, your resilience, your love, and your commitment to your children shine brighter than the darkness he tried to cast.

I want to share something close to my heart.
I started a project called The Shoes Left Behind.

It’s about the unseen impact on children and families when systems make decisions and then move on.
Yellow shoes represent children.
Purple shoes represent the parents who keep going.

If this resonates, I’d really appreciate you checking out the app and sitting with it for a moment.

The Shoes Left Behind (Copy) A quiet awareness project making visible the unseen impact of family court decisions on children and families, using symbolism to highlight absence, silence, and long-term consequences.

Friendship Home of Lincoln

Today, Friendship Home staff joined state senators and advocates at the Nebraska State Capitol to address the alarming rise in domestic violence homicides and to support legislation focused on prevention, accountability, and survivor safety.

We were proud to stand alongside advocates and lawmakers as participating senators shared how proposed bills can better protect survivors, and as the Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence highlighted statewide trends in survivors seeking services.

Advocacy is a critical part of our mission, and we will continue to show up for survivors wherever decisions impacting their safety are made.
