Hopefully facebook doesn’t kill the quality on this one!
In this video is “What could have been the fastest lap of the weekend”, Tyler’s great saves, and the checked flag conversion. All these clips are from the test day, zero racing so we all played very nicely. I have another clip that I’ll post later that the perfect example of a fun little battle between two very different cars.
My goal was to break 1:50.0 after all the upgrades from the last year (a bunch of weight cut out, aero, and newer tires (we were on older RS4s, we still have a fresher set waiting)). Last year with 10/10ths group (they run the chicane before the keyhole), I ran a 2:08 lap at the end of the day. It was pouring rain, we only had a set of tires that came with the car (date code was like 2011, if I remember correctly). Terrible data but I was pretty certain that a sub 1:50 was possible coming into last weekend.
I never officially broke the 1:50 mark though. 1:50.564 was my fastest lap, which isn’t the lap you see in the video. The video shows what was going to be my fastest lap until I got held up in thunder-valley and the carousel behind that Porsche. The traffic at the end of the day was pretty thick. According to my data, theoretically could have ran a 1:49.358. Good enough for me to say that the car CAN break 1:50 but hasn’t yet. Something to note, I’m just now really trusting the aero grip on the car, this was the first event where we had aero intact for the full day.
I can’t compare lap times from last year very well due to weather and track layout but I can confidently say that the car is a lot quicker. This weekend will be the true test at Putnam Park. Last year with full Spec miata weight, no aero, but better tires than Mid-Ohio last year, I ran a 1:25.3 officially. I’m shooting for the moon and hoping to break 1:20 with how the car sits now with zero extra power. 5 seconds is a lot of time to shave off, I have been told aero at PP on a Miata is worth 2.5-4 seconds… so we shall see.
I post these for anyone curious and mostly for myself to look back to, so enjoy.
