A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to take these folks climbing for their second time outdoors. (The first time was with us a few months ago at Moores Wall) Since their first time outdoors they really caught the bug, buying equipment, frequent climbing gym visits, learning how to belay, and more. On this second outdoor climbing day we spent the morning learning about anchors and toproping in the Devils Cellar. After our warmup session we had a great multipitch climb to the summit of Table Rock. All good fun and great memories with our guests.👍

At least for now, Ship Rock is open again. Subject to future closures for construction, but as of now you can access the Rough Ridge parking lot from the South at Beacon Heights and access the climbers trail for Ship Rock. If you don’t know Ship Rock it’s a prime summer destination, with 10/10 views and higher elevations and cooler temps. Let us know when you’re ready to check it out.

The Linville Gorge is a sort of home away from home for ACS. It’s a beautifully rugged wilderness that illuminates who you are, what you are made of, and how you react when challenged. Rock climbing isn’t easy, but in return, you distill yourself and find what really matters.
The Gorge can be incredibly rewarding, but like many things in life, there is risk. On the best days, the temps are sublime. On harder days, things don’t go as planned. A storm rolls over the rim, or your head game gets tested high above gear.
That is where the real lesson lives: turning uncertainty into capability, and building the judgment that only real stone can teach.
Outdoor climbing shouldn’t feel intimidating. At ACS, we provide the structured, hands-on instruction you need to feel completely at home on the rock—whether you are stepping out of the gym, mastering trad gear, or taking on a custom guided day at Looking Glass or Linville.
Autumn is magic, but our schedule is filling fast. Over half of our weekend slots for September and October are already claimed.
Ready to build your confidence on real stone this fall? Head to the link in our bio to view our calendar and reserve your spot.

A few weeks back we had the opportunity to help these incoming freshmen for Wake Forest Campus Recreation enjoy some climbing at the Nose area of Looking Glass rock. We had a great time and wish all the students the best on their journeys!

Sometimes you need to bail. Learning how to bail gracefully is a skill to practice.
