🎙️ The Winner’s Circle Podcast with Ray Diggs – Episode Recap
Just wrapped up another episode of The Winner’s Circle Podcast with Ray Diggs. We broke down the entire Karmelo Anthony trial from start to finish, discussing key testimony, defense strategy, prosecution arguments, and some of the mistakes that may have impacted the outcome of the case.
We also discussed the growing controversy surrounding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who was granted a temporary injunction allowing him to play during the 2026 season despite NCAA sanctions tied to gambling activity. The decision has sparked national debate about competitive integrity, NCAA authority, and the future of college athletics. The NCAA has already appealed the ruling, while Big 12 officials and member schools continue to weigh their options.
Two major stories. Two very different worlds. One podcast.

Two big questions I have after the Karmelo Anthony trial:
1. Why didn’t the defense bring more people forward to speak on his behalf during sentencing? Family members, teachers, coaches, mentors, church members—someone to help paint a fuller picture of who he is outside of this case. We’ve seen defendants in other serious cases have multiple people testify about their character, so it’s surprising that there wasn’t more support presented.
2. Why weren’t his parents standing beside him during the sentencing phase? From what was reported, he was seated with his attorney and grandmother while the Metcalf family delivered their victim impact statements. Whether someone agrees with the verdict or not, that’s a difficult moment for any young person. As a parent, I would think you’d want to be there to support your child through one of the toughest days of his life.
Those are just two things that stood out to me after watching this case. What do y’all think???

People are mad at me, but the truth is I was actually hoping Karmelo would be found not guilty. However, after looking at all the evidence presented in court, I just didn’t see a convincing self-defense case.
Now that he’s been convicted, all you can do is hope the judge considers all the circumstances and gives him a fair sentence. At the end of the day, none of us know what that sentence will be.

Listen, at the end of the day, I thought Karmelo Anthony’s defense team was terrible. They never really presented a convincing self-defense argument, and it felt like they were constantly playing catch-up to the prosecution.
One thing I keep coming back to is this: if you’re claiming self-defense, why not get on the stand and tell the jury your side directly? Nobody can explain what was going through your mind better than you. Instead, the jury was left to piece things together from witnesses and attorneys.
Obviously, getting on the stand comes with risks, especially under cross-examination, but from where I sit, the defense never gave the jury a strong enough reason to doubt the prosecution’s version of events.
Agree or disagree???

College football is headed down a dangerous path.
Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby has been granted eligibility by a Texas judge despite gambling allegations involving nearly $90,000 in wagers, including bets tied to his own team. Meanwhile, Calvin Ridley was suspended for an entire NFL season for betting approximately $1,500 while away from his team.
So what’s the standard now?
For years we were told gambling on sports was the one line athletes couldn’t cross because it threatens the integrity of the game. But now it seems that line keeps moving depending on who’s involved and which court gets involved.
Whether you agree with the ruling or not, one thing is clear: the NCAA is losing its authority, and college football is changing right before our eyes.
What do y’all think? Is this the right decision, or is college football sending the wrong message to athletes???

:
Karmelo Anthony’s trial continues as the prosecution has officially rested its case after calling 21 of its 35 potential witnesses. Many of those witnesses appeared to tell a similar version of events, helping the prosecution reinforce its timeline and theory of the case.
Now the focus shifts to the defense as they begin presenting their witnesses and attempt to support the self-defense claim. Based on what we’ve heard so far, that argument appears to be facing significant challenges.
The defense still has its opportunity to present evidence and testimony, but at this stage, it’s not looking good for the self-defense claim.
Stay tuned as we continue to break down every major development.
