☀️🐴 IS IT TOO HOT TO RIDE? DO THE MATH FIRST!
Just because your horse is willing to work in the heat doesn’t mean it’s safe.
One of the easiest ways to estimate how efficiently your horse can cool himself is to add the actual air temperature (°F) + relative humidity (%).
🌡️ TEMPERATURE + HUMIDITY = YOUR NUMBER
Here’s a quick guide:
Temp + Humidity What It Means
Under 130 🟢 Lower risk — horses can cool themselves relatively efficiently
130–150 🟡 Use caution — cooling ability is decreased
Over 150 🔴 High risk — cooling ability is greatly reduced; avoid riding when possible
Over 180 🚨 DANGEROUS — conditions can become life-threatening with exertion
☀️ HERE'S AN EXAMPLE:
It’s 100°F outside with 58% relative humidity.
100 + 58 = 158
🔴 That puts your horse OVER 150.
Even though 58% humidity may not sound terrible, when combined with a 100°F air temperature, your horse has a much harder time getting rid of the heat produced during exercise.
DON'T FORGET THE INDIVIDUAL HORSE
These numbers are a guideline, not a guarantee of safety.
Older horses, overweight horses, horses that aren't conditioned to the heat, horses with long hair coats, and especially horses with anhidrosis can develop heat stress much sooner.
When temperatures are extreme, consider riding early in the morning, shortening your workout, decreasing the intensity, taking frequent breaks and providing plenty of water.
Sometimes the safest training decision you can make is simply:
It's too hot. We'll ride another day.

Hey everyone! Unfortunately next week's temperatures, even earlier in the morning are gonna be too dangerous to ride like this week, so until the weather is better we are gonna have to reschedule any lessons! I’m so sorry guys especially to the ones who haven’t got to come lesson yet or very much.. today by 8:45/9am I was struggling and horses were already sweating.. I hope everyone understands! No lessons next week 8/17-8/21
Comanche is turning out to be a great lesson horse!❤️

Rooster says this is the only way to stay cool on hot days!😎

Super proud of Ginger today! She saddled great she is standing tied super well and let me climb on her and sit on her! We are taking it slow so she is comfortable and has sat for 4 years minus 1 ride being walked around it also got super hot quick today but I can’t wait to ride her around! Cooper stood super well tied like always while I worked his sister! I’m really enjoying tuning these two up and they will be ready for Joanna Williams to enjoy when they go home!😎

Super proud of these horses today! I rode cooper for the first time and he was great! Ginger had a tying lesson again and gabby brushed her! These 2 have sat for a bit and haven’t done much but you can’t really tell! We have been working on alot of ground work now it’s time to get them riding again! Cant wait to see how they are in a few months!😎

****FOR EFA STUDENTS AND FAMILIES****
INFO BELOW PROVIDED BY Ann Snelson
Weekly Announcements
The queue is currently at these dates
Marketplace – 8/4
Direct Pay – 8/3
Reimbursements – 8/3 (lot of submissions this day so bare with them)
Payment Requests – UP TO DATE
Pre-approvals - 6/25
** Note, anything not reviewed that was submitted before these dates is likely in further review for one of many reasons. But as a WHOLE this is where the queue is at.
THE TIMELINE
Classwallet is open.
Returning students are able to spend their rollover now.
New students should have gotten an email to setup classwallet.
You MUST link to Homeschool Do Not Pay – Little Rock by the 13th to guarantee no delays in the funding due on the 20th.
The notice of intent deadline is the 15th and so please do not miss that either or again you aren’t getting funded.
If your returning student did not have funds they have no affidavit.
If your student is a new student they have no affidavit.
The affidavit is clicking to ACCEPT the funds, so it cannot be made available until your account has funds. On the 20th when Q1 funds drop those students will have their affidavit available and will be able to accept the funds and then have access to Marketplace and ability to make purchases,
Now that the linking feature is live I highly suggest all students also link to their tutors or coops or music lessons or any vendor who is paid monthly or quarterly for services. It is possible to use the system for products as well but the biggest benefit offered from linking is to make sure we do not lose tutors and instructors in direct pay. If they stop taking it then the students with the highest needs no longer have access to needed services.
If your program is direct pay but has not been taking it due to the delays please let them know the link feature allows payment requests which are fully caught up and being approved same or next day currently.
A lot of things in this program that are important get screwed with constantly by the state I get that trust me. But some issues in this program WE HAVE THE POWER to make better ourselves. If we as parents make sure every vendor knows they can link and knows how and the payment delays can be eliminated for those that were struggling then WE HAVE THE POWER to make sure that our most vulnerable community members don’t end up let out in the cold and unable to obtain tutoring services and educational opportunities.
There is a lot up in the air still that they have said should be clarified soon. I promise I am being very vocal about the need that they work faster on that. They literally hear my complaints on it DAILY!! I am making sure they know just how important it is that whoever these powers that be that the final info comes from are they need to light a fire under it because this is not ok.
But it’s important we also do our parts and not expect everything to be done by someone else.
Now – you can link to vendors now even new students and get ready for funding day. They can even send you payment requests you just cannot go approve them until you have funds. But you CAN have everything all queued up and ready for the 20th. But any vendor you link and request one from please tell them if you will not have funds until drop day so that their expectations on when you will approve it are reasonable as well.
If your vendor doesn’t know how to link, I have put the video walkthrough here

INFORMATION ON FINDING THINGS!!
A reminder to everyone that there is a website with ads that will help if trying to compare items or services and get more detailed information on them.
www.ArkansasHomeschoolFreedom.com
The video on the home page will help a lot for those of you new to the program to use for understanding submitting direct pay and marketplace orders.
There is also a video on the home page that helps understand how to use all three searching options.
The ads on this page are fabulous for comparing and so many new vendors have been added. Take a look and browse to get a better idea of all the options your student can choose from. I am adding n3ew vendor ads every week as they place them.
Note – I build it all my self and many times at 2=3 am so if you ever find an ERROR on the website please tell me so I can go fix it.
https://www.arkansashomeschoolfreedom.com/producttype
The search Miss Toni created and continues to update as vendors are added and provide their information is the best way to look for what services are in your area. Especially if needing or requiring in person services. The ability to search with your zip code and use a radius map is helpful.
https://sites.google.com/view/efapartners
The school choice website is another option as well for looking for vendors in different categories. ALL vendors are on the School Choice page. Not every vendor is in the other searches as those are optional and they must submit their info to be included.
https://app.schoolchoicear.org/
There really is no good way to search direct pay inside of Classwallet so utilize the tools that have been made available to you to help better locate and access the services your student needs.
The FAQ page on the website and the Resources pages are full of good information and will always stay up to date. As any policies and rules change or new updates are provided they will be updated on the website right away.

The blogs are great to follow but the main blog is the most recommended one if you are not regular on Facebook and having trouble getting the weekly emails from the ADE office. Every email they send out gets blogged there. If you follow that blog you will get those emailed to you that way.
TALK TO ME – TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK
I wanted to reshare the link for reviews. You can view the review blog and posts all on this page. The blog is the top half of the page there are additional pages. So far only one guest blog post but I am hoping for more. It will be posted as a blog post if images are included. All text only submission will go at the bottom of the page there.
But sharing your experiences and your children's is a great way to help your fellow homeschool families research what would work well for their own little trolls and goblins.
https://www.arkansashomeschoolfreedom.com/reviews
If you want to submit your own review or guest blog post the form is on the bottom of this page
https://www.arkansashomeschoolfreedom.com/blogs
You can submit guest posts for the Special needs schooling blog or the schooling teens blog as well. Use the same form but just state what blog it is for –
AND LET’S ALL TELL OUR WONDERFUL STORIES - How have your children been blessed by the EFA program. What differences has the program made that have helped provide what your student needs. HOMESCHOOL< PRIVATE SCHOOL > MICROSCHOOL - no matter the school choice your student is using funding for, tell your story so that others can see that this program is NOT rich private schools draining tax dollars. It's students finally getting a chance to afford the things they need to succeed in a system that many of them had no options in until now.
I have added a FORM to the bottom of the page so that you don't have to deal with emailing and such. It’s a nice simple option.
