One of my favorite things to do while coaching is watch how the kids celebrate after a goal 🙏🏼👏🏼✋🏼

First in person portion completed of the USSF B-Course! My coach group of 4 ran the session we created with a U18B team, former SC champs. Planned for 16 players, ended up with 8 which caused some major last minute adjustments, but overall we were pretty happy with the end result and the data collected during our reflection. PLUS watching our lead HC Liisi in action was super cool!

*Some Session Planning Points*

A problem we identified within the clip we were given (current behavior): our 11 & 3 created a 2v1 in the left wide channel, mid 1/3 (att 1/2). Our 11 made a forward pass to the 3 who made an underlapping forward run to complete the pass towards the attacking 1/3. Our 9 ran across the field and into the same space as the 3, stalling our cross/attack & bringing defenders with him, then creating a 2v4 and untimely an end to our chance with no cross made.

Solution (desired behavior):
Create chances and score goals
Cues = recognizing when we have a numerical advantage (or favorable advantage) in the wide channel-cues key players to make runs into box. (Or, unfavorable numbers 10/8 support movement to help play towards corner of box.)

Principle and Sub-Principle: Finish the attack by getting numbers in the box and filling zones in front of goal

Key Player Behavior: To finish the attack with our 9, 10 (near or slot) 7, 8 (far & edge of box); Efficient Occupation of zones in the box on cross.

Wrapping up the HSG club season for Rapids South with a photo dump.

8 months ago I took on the South 08G Select Beckman & 06G Select teams. Both teams competed in P1 for regular season and participated in a few tournaments, including college showcases.

We started with team building and leadership activities; developing the culture and trust between one another, and beginning to form a space where each person felt they belonged and felt comfortable being their own individual person.

We talked a lot about respect, accountability, regulating emotions, communication, confidence, decision making, effort, commitment, adversity, competing, organization, professionalism and sportsmanship. That is all in addition to the “normal” chats about technical, tactical and physical development.

My goal was to guide these young people towards the best version of themselves, as a player and person. To help them be the best they could be in their role, for their team.

I saw a lot of growth through the highs and lows that every season has. Thank you players and families for the consistent support and getting on board with the A.C.E.S. culture. Thank you for challenging me to be the best coach and person I could be for you all. Now, it’s time for them to go ball out for their HS team (8th graders you’re almost there!). Score goals and take souls (respectfully of course)! 😎

WAYYYY OVERDUE, but still important:

SHOUT OUT to the Rapids South 08G Select Beckman team! Played in the NC College Showcase back in December & won their division with 3 wins and ZERO goals conceded.

The thing I am most proud about is after every game the ref’s came up to me to express not only how great our performance and competitiveness was but also to acknowledge the sportsmanship our girls showed. The respect and attitude of this group is something really special to be a part of.

Looking forward to watching this group continue to grow. 😎🤩
