Every year, the Lockport Umpire Association awards a scholorship to a senior baseball player from the high schools that we umpire in our territory. All the Niagara Orleans teams and Lockport and Starpoint.
Criteria includes achieving excellent grades, being a role model student, an excellent leader in the community, and allowing the bat and defense to speak for itself by displaying a dominant presence on the ball field.
Jeffrey Haseley award this year's scholorship winner to Starpoint Senior Catcher Nick Nunzio.
An absolute "pro's/pro", when I have been assigned working the plate and behind Nick, I have had the best seat watching him work, be the field general that he is. For his at-bats, knowing where to hit the ball, knowing the situation made him a staple on that Starpoint Spartan team for Coach Tim Racey's squad.
Congrats Nick and take care of business next season on the field for Genesee Community College!!
