The tennis sisters Serena and Venus Williams, grew up in Compton, CA and had to work hard to achieve success in their lives. A place where a child lives should never be a problem for a child who wants to succeed in any sports or activities. That’s why USActive sports was born. Our beliefs are that every child of any background, should have a chance to achieve their dreams. All children deserve equal opportunities regardless. It’s been proven that participating in sports prevents bullying, reinforce concepts of discipline, respect for others differences, improves friendships, as well as healthy habits, and combating child obesity.

Playing a sport in order to spend time with old friends, or to make new friends, is one of the most common motives for participating in sports for all children.

One of the greatest feelings in sports is getting to hang out with friends, share the experience of working hard and competing together against others.

The relationships that kids develop during sport can lead to a lot of different outcomes. For example, when kids feel accepted by their peers, they report higher levels of self-esteem, more enjoyment of activities and are less likely to want to avoid participating.

Being on a sports team provides children with a new social circle outside of school, an opportunity for making new friendships, some of which may last a lifetime. By training with other kids, children participate in different interactions from those they have in school.

Also, their communication and interactions are far richer than the ones they get by simply texting via social media. They win together, they compete among themselves, they lose and deal with defeat together.

Being involved in a sport teaches valuable lessons in teamwork, such as putting yourself in second place for the benefit of the whole team. All of this gives children a new sense of togetherness and belonging.

Sports participation is a significant predictor of young adults' participation in sports and physical fitness activities. Adolescents who play sports are eight times as likely to be active at age 24 as adolescents who do not play sports (Sports Participation as Predictors of Participation in Sports and Physical Fitness Activities in Young Adulthood, Perkins, 2004).

Three in four (77%) of adults aged 30+ who play sports today played sports as school-aged children. Only 3% of adults who play sports currently did not play when they were young (Source: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/Harvard University/NPR, 2015).

USActive will offer volleyball and soccer classes to children and teenagers from low-income families starting its operations in California.

The main idea of this project is to promote the socialization of kids and the prevention of bullying among them as well as giving them the opportunity to have access to scholarships and to compete at an elite level.

USActive will (soon) establish partnerships with the school districts of each city, with the aim of ceding the spaces of the local high school for use of court, fields, and patios after school time.
