I'd like to share a rather unusual and free resource for promoting positive childhood experiences and preventing adverse childhood experiences...parenting norms bumper stickers.

Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting norms bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to schools, businesses, organizations, clinics, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way for friends, neighbors, and community members to share parenting wisdom. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

After a tough judging session, our judges have chosen Sarai as the 2017 Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles Youth of the Year! Congratulations, and we wish you the absolute best of luck. All 5 of our candidates (three from Watts/Willowbrook and 2 from Challengers Boys & Girls Club) were amazing and had the most inspiring stories. Although there was a winner, there were no losers.

Today we had the DeeDee Jackson Foundation come out and throw a holiday pizza party for our kids. Our Club members that participated in the DDJF Music Therapy Program had the opportunity to show of some of their songs and we also received a generous donation from the DeeDee Jackson Foundation. What a great way to end 2016!

In our first holiday celebration as a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles, we served over 350 youth from our Club, Challengers Boys & Girls Club, and Boys & Girls Club of Nickerson Gardens. We had several parent volunteers and many of our supporters in attendance as well. We also had the support of 4Hundred Waze at our event. All in all, it was huge success and we have made many youth and their families very happy. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

In collaboration with Peace4Kids and Foster Care Counts, we hosted our 4th Annual Holiday Celebration where over two hundred youth received gifts, participated in gingerbread cookie and house creating, made an appointment in our salon and got free books.
