An amazing event organized by The LA84 Foundation and hosted right here at the EXPO Center!
Congratulations to all of the swimmers and coaches who participated in the 2014 LA84 Foundation Summer Swim Festival on August 9. A big thank you to our 13 program partners and the Expo Center staff for a great meet. We are grateful to the parents, friends and volunteers for supporting the swimmers. There were 910 entries, 463 girls and 447 boys. Competitors swam in age-group races in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and relays. “Ferraro Fields: Honoring the Legacy, Building for the Future”
On the 30th anniversary of the Operning Ceremonies of the 1984 Olympic Games, several of its stars, including Rafer Johnson, Edwin Moses, Greg Louganis and Nelson Vails, joined Councilmembers Tom LaBonge and Mitch O'Farrell, LA84 Foundation President Anita DeFrantz, LA Recreation and Parks General Manager Mike Shull, LA Recreation and Parks Commissioner Sylvia Patsaouras and 2015 Special Olympics World Games President & CEO Patrick McClenahan at a press event this morning to herald the $10.5 million renovation of Ferraro Fields in Griffith Park, the city’s largest soccer facility. The renovated complex will be able to serve nearly 340,000 players a year and reduce the facility’s water consumption by 95%. Members of local youth leagues participated in a banner break at the end of the ceremony to officially kick off the renovation.
