Operating as usual

[10/09/15]   Hello Facebookers! We haven't posted in awhile, we're baaaaack. Just wanted to share this review from an amazing new client to the studio:

Clear your mind of whatever it is you already know about barre! This was an entirely different experience for me, and I am so pleased! It was a wonderful change of pace from the "routine" I was already in at another studio. Bring your sticky socks, prepare to sweat, and if you are a beginner (or had been on a hiatus, like I was), no worries! The instructor will make sure you are doing all of the moves correctly, and -- bonus -- SHE WILL PUSH YOU! I can't wait for this studio to become my home away from home.

#resurrection#barrelab,

Love and Light, Barre Lab

MY TIME TO CRY

Today I'm choosing to cry instead of going numb or running away. Even though in this moment I feel gross and alone I know on the other side of my tears is strength and growth..... Love, tears, feeling, healing and growth.

My mind, my heart, my body, my past, my present, my future - the tears seem to be originating from many different parts of me. I'm intentionally remaining open and vulnerable. I'm pushing myself to release what I'm feeling but as I go deeper I'm starting to feel extremely uncomfortable. I don't want to deal with this. I'm resisting.

My brain won't stop trying to figure out problems I'm incapable of figuring out right now in this moment.... and my head hurts.

The weight of my life is on my shoulders and I want to run away. Run away from the chaos that so often runs rampant in my head, run away from the tears, the pain, the fear and the anxiety.

But the wisdom I've gained over the years is telling me running away won't change or solve a damn thing. I will only be crying in a different location. The pain will feel the same in a different coffee shop, different lounge, different city.

The truth is, we can't run away from what's inside of us. We can numb it for a while, push it away temporarily but eventually it rises to the surface and forces us to deal. The sooner we deal with ourselves the sooner we can stop running. The sooner we can stop running the sooner we are free.

Freedom for myself means staring my scariest, darkest, most irrational emotions in the face and slowly, softly leaning in and kissing them long and deep. Grabbing them by the back of the head and pulling them closer. Letting them know I don't judge them or hate them. I want them to know I would like to understand them on an intimate level.

I want to arrive in this place. I know if I stand a chance of achieving this emotional maturity. I can't run. I have to face and manage all the uncomfortable emotions that I experience as a hyper feminine sensitive woman. I need to be an adult. I need to claim this right and fully step Into this role. This means leaving my little girl behind. I've made peace with her, it's time to say goodbye.

Adults don't run away when things get hard. They stay, they face the pain, the discomfort and they come out the other side with an incredible amount of wisdom.

The harder I push myself and the more love I pour onto myself once I've step through. The more I learn about myself. I have begun to understand what makes me this glorious messy, passionate, lovely , complicated, gifted woman.

No more running, No more judgement, no more resistance. I can do this and when I mess it up and I can try it again. It truly gets easier to feel the more you do it.

Acceptance and love, love and acceptance. Cry, learn, look deeper, push yourself harder, remain open, embrace life's challenges and keep moving towards that magnificent woman you are becoming.

Much love, Jenn

Eric Sanchez " Vogue Teaching Reel 2015"

Come on, VOGUERS!!! you do NOT want to miss this...
all you need,
is your own imagination.....
so use it, that's what it's forrrrrrr

We promised cool, fun additions to our growing roster of Hollywood insiders, but, we may have actually outdone ourselves by roping in ERIC SANCHEZ... First of all, besides being a FIERCE dancer, he's also a runway model! And um... the man can VOGUE. He can REALLY pose.

When we asked this long tall drink of water how he got soooo good at looking like a snapshot in a magazine, he explained it so beautifully, we thought we should share;

"At 10 years old I joined an enrichment program in charter school
In the boogie down Bronx and started playing an African drum called Djembe (pronounced "Jimbay"). One day, I saw this beautiful African woman - Sister Dele...all I knew is that I wanted to get up and dance...and it began....the long-haired Latin boy in all-girls dance group whipping his hair back and forth...dancing his ass off. My mom would come to my showcases and all the parents would exclaim, " your daughter is in the center is killing it!"

My mom would shout back...

That's my SON! And yes... he is KILLING it!!!!'

By the age of 15 years old I was on stage with emerging artists, exposed to night life in Manhattan, getting snuck into studios and clubs with different dance crews and paid $50 just to be there dancing. That's where I learned how to dance, at clubs, studios, and friend's houses - - the music and movement taught me."

Eric's class feels surreal. We had never collectively "looked straight at ourselves in the mirror and said, "you are all that!" or "damnnnn, you look gooooood!", but once we started, we couuld not STOP!!! We are THRILLED that other studios thought he was "not corporate enough"...We are now too busy staring down our bad-ass selves and striking poses to care if we thought it was going to be hokey or not a workout.

You know how can put you truly through your paces?
Someone who has been dancing non-stop for years.
This course is FUN and yes, a GREAT WORKOUT!!

Come on, VOGUE-Thursday at 12:15
all you need,
is your own imagination.....
so use it, that's what it's forrrrrrr

It only took a split second of watching Madonna vogue-ing for us to instantly start practicing in front of the mirror. Alas…we never nailed it.
Hence, a twinge of regret every time this song comes around.

We promised cool, fun additions to our growing roster of Hollywood insiders, but, we may have actually outdone ourselves by roping in ERIC SANCHEZ... and we are throwing down some serious moves over here. Let’s explain a little more about Eric and why he is our attitudinal Adonis: First of all, besides being a FIERCE dancer, he’s also a runway model! And um… the man can VOGUE. He can REALLY pose. Since his early teenage years, he has been hired to dance stand around on stages next to artists just to make THEM look cool. GET OUT OF TOWN!!! So we were like, ERIC!!! MAKE US LOOK COOL!!! PLEASE!!!

Let’s put it this way; emotional and physical expression, when done with a fearless leader, makes you feel like your WHOLE BODY is smiling… instead of like you are trying to shake toilet paper off your hands…we are posing, in all our glory…now, we are obsessed.

When we asked this long tall drink of water how he got soooo good at looking like a snapshot in a magazine, he explained it so beautifully, we thought we should share;

“At 10 years old I joined an enrichment program in charter school
In the boogie down Bronx and started playing an African drum called Djembe (pronounced "Jimbay"). One day, I saw this beautiful African woman - Sister Dele…all I knew is that I wanted to get up and dance…and it began….the long-haired Latin boy in all-girls dance group whipping his hair back and forth…dancing his ass off. My mom would come to my showcases and all the parents would exclaim, " your daughter is in the center is killing it!" My mom would shout back…’That's my Son! And yes… he is KILLING it!!!!’

That's where I learned how to dance, at clubs, studios, and friend’s houses - - the music and movement taught me.”

Eric’s class feels surreal. We had never collectively “looked straight at ourselves in the mirror and said, “you are all that! ” or something like it, and we are THRILLED that other studios thought that was “not corporate enough” and that we can let him just GO. but, we are now too busy staring down our bad-ass selves and striking poses to care if we thought it was going to be hokey or not a workout. You know how can put you truly through your paces?

LOS ANGELES EXCLUSIVE — JASON SCHOLDER WORKSHOPS!!!

Here in LA there is so much talk about burning calories and tight buns, we often forget we have an equally important need to relax, breathe, unwind, and play. In fact, we often don’t realize how much we push ourselves… until we stop. Come, breathe and have some fun, which is nothing short of invigorating, and hits us right where it counts.

THE STORY OF JASON SCHOLDER AND THE LITTLE EGG THAT COULD

A few years ago at a yoga convention we came across this happy guy selling colorful, egg-egg shaped foam blocks.
A long time ago, he explained, he had terrible back pain, and out of pure desperation, he invented a device to make it go away. Now, Jason was not a yogi, he was just trying to stop the pain. One thing led to another, and soon Jason had healed his own back pain, and was well on his way to helping others. Everyone who tried his eggs was thrilled… especially the early adapters, yoga students and teachers, who picked up on the genius of his invention right away. Often using his versatile prop as a substitute for bolsters, straps, blankets, or blocks, soon the Eggs spread like wildfire, and Jason (Remember Jason?) felt he had no choice but to follow his heart and his newfound career as “The Egg Guy." Jason would get swarmed at conventions, and although kind of a genius, Jason’s pretty humble. He’s not in it for the glory, but for how much fun he is having. In fact, Jason was so laid back about selling us the Eggs, we figured there was a catch. He swore three minutes of our day with his Eggs would give us a fresh perspective and a profound sense of joy and relaxation. We thought he was a bit of a wacko at the time, but, now, we are hosting him at our place.

You do the math.

This brings us, and you, lucky stiff person, to what’s happening at Barre Lab on June 8th. When we heard Jason Scholder was going to be in California, we BEGGED him to make a special trip to LA to share more with us about how to use his eggs, and if nothing else, to play with them, because the applications seemed to be endless, and Jason is a lot of fun. Jason never thought he would do anything like teach yoga, but fortunately he was so uncomfortable (sorry, we mean that in the best way) that he was driven to invent something profoundly useful to the rest of us. Whether you are a yoga teacher, a yoga student, or simply someone who sits in a chair, we urge you to come share a few moments with Jason and his Eggs. He is offering a super deal if you want to buy them (you will, mark our words) and if you don’t, you will at least know what to do with them when you walk into a studio and see them (which you will because they’re popping up everywhere!). Plus, doing handstands on them wows your friends, and you can pass them to your child during a meeting so they can be entertained. We’ve been known to travel everywhere with them. Two little eggs in a suitcase = heaven :).

A special note to yoga teachers: If you are a yoga teacher (and in LA, who isn’t, really?) or student, the opportunity to meet Jason directly and play with his Eggs (maybe you have a pose you’ve been trying to nail and just can’t?) is nothing short of practice-changing. As if the postures were not enough with the help of the Eggs. just wait until you put 36 Eggs in a bag... weighs MAYBE a pound.

No longer a traveling yoga road show, and thrilled at our discovery, we have since become profound believers in both Jason, and his invention, the Three Minute Egg®, which is truly saying something. We are purists, and were skeptical about replacing the props created by B.K.S. Inyengar, but, we can’t always carry a bolster, blankets, and blocks and straps with us everywhere, and if we did, we would need a sherpa. In addition to having their own unique applications and benefits, should the classic props be unavailable, the Eggs are a phenomenal shortcut to the type of R & R yoga can offer. And we are ALL about that.
