Pyramid Lake Recreation Area and Campground

Fishing has been great over the past week for multiple species both off shore and throughout the lake. Many anglers have been catching trout on various baits from shore such as little spinner baits and kastmasters but the best baits have been nightcrawlers and powerbait throughout the day. Lots have catfish have been caught out on the water down deep in coves around the lake on Sardines, Chicken Liver and nightcrawlers. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass have been biting very well along the shorelines on many different baits such as jerkbaits, crankbaits, ned rigs, flukes and senkos throughout the day with some top water action in the mornings for both Bass and Stripers. Stripers have been busting during the morning hours throughout the lake, being caught on top waters, jerkbaits, and lugworms from the banks, bait and wait style.

Current hours are from 6am-7pm, beginning tomorrow on June 2, the Lake will start closing at 8pm.

In order to practice Social Distancing and Covid-19 regulations, we are limiting the vehicles that enter the park and we ask for your patience and cooperation during these hard times.

Swim Beaches are still closed for both exits, Vista Del Lago is still closed so make sure to exit Smokey Bear Road to find the lake, and there will be NO RE-ENTRY to the park once inside so bring all supplies and friends with you.

50 jetskis, 100 vehicles, and 150 boats may enter the lake, after capacity is reached, it is a "One-in-One-out" policy to enter the lake. If you are bringing in your own watercraft, be sure to have your paperwork and equipment in order. Persons 35 of age or younger is required to have their Boater's Card to operate their vessels, Sherriff's will be checking.

Stay safe and drive carefully with everything going on and we hope to see you out here soon!

Pyramid Lake Recreation Area and Campground

Throughout the past week, people have been catching a lot of catfish around the lake, mainly down deep in coves and along sandy banks on sardines, chicken liver, and nightcrawlers. Anglers have also been catching stripers on sardines and lugworms along the rip rap in front of the boat shop and off of the points past the swim beach, typically caught within the first few hours of the morning or throughout the day in deeper water. Largemouth and Smallmouth bass are still biting from 10-30ft deep on various soft plastic rigs like drop shots or craw style baits and even some deeper diving crankbaits and jerkbaits as well. Umbrella rigs have also been successful searching for these deeper bass, working different water columns at different retrieves to get a bite.

Lake hours are still from 7am-5pm.
Rentals start at opening and stop at 1pm, all rentals are due back at the dock no later than 3pm.
Private watercrafts can launch until 2pm and are due off the water no later than 4pm.

Anglers who endured the snowy weather over the past week have been rewarded with Stripers, Bass and Trout on various baits both from the shoreline and boats throughout the lake. We received a Trout plant on Tuesday, November 26 and have been biting on little spinner baits, powerbait and nightcrawlers along the shoreline in the marina. People have also been catching Stripers off the rip rap in front of the boat shop and along the canal by the entrance booth on different types of swimbaits and cut baits like sardines or anchovies bait and wait style. Trolling throughout the lake has also been effective for stripers using kastmasters, deep diving jerk baits, leadheads and A-rigs around Chumash Island, Serrano Cove and up into Yellowbar Canyon. Bass have been biting spinner baits and crank baits along with various soft plastic setups and worms.

Friendly Reminder: Hours are from 7am-5pm
Boat Rentals are from 7am-1pm and are due back at 3pm
Private watercrafts must be in water before 2pm and on trailer before 4pm, everyone must be out of the park by 5pm.

We are open everyday except for Christmas and New Years Day and weather is a factor as well during the snow season.
Make sure to check road and weather conditions before traveling and make sure to be prepared for any freeway closures! Feel free to call us for additional info at any time!
