Valley Shotokan is a branch of SHOTOKAN KARATE OF AMERICA (S.K.A.), the oldest karate organization in America. Valley Shotokan, like the S.K.A., maintains a nonprofit status and teaches karate-do (the way of Karate) as a martial art.

Last month, two of our members, Grey Kaufman and Sam Sabzanov went to Special Training West at California State University Channel Islands. They were two of the 130 members of SKA to participate in this yearly event and we could not be more proud. After eight years and seven Special Trainings, Sam Sabzanov passed the test for Shodan, becoming our 51st Black Belt at Valley Shotokan! Congratulations to you both!

Hello everyone!
Christopher is having his 70th birthday on Wednesday, and we are asking for 20 dollars per head if you can make it. Practice will end at 9, and we will head out to the dinner place.
On a side note, please try to come to Thursday and Saturday classes, because there are not many people coming and the teachers are fantastic.
If you will be coming on Wednesday, please give [email protected] a RSVP so he can make the reservation.
Thanks and regards.
[05/02/18]
Christopher Hunt will be leading tomorrow nights class at its regular time as well as next Wednesdays class. David Woodard will be regularly teaching the Saturday classes.
Please attend both classes if you can. Both are a well of knowledge that we should take advantage of drinking from.

Hello all, Ronit here,
This is the message Christopher gave us and I am posting it here for your convenience.
"To all Valley Shotokan Active,
We hope you hope you enjoy our 2017 release. This is the first publication with our new editor in chief, Ronit Ghosh, who made Shodan two years ago.
As you might already know, Christopher Hunt, our senior instructor, has stepped down and will leave the management of the dojo to the senior members.
He will teach once a month and oversee dojo doings behind the scenes.
We need your help to give the new generation a chance to succeed at Valley Shotokan.
In previous eras, word of mouth was the best way to inform people of certain kinds of opportunities. Evidence seems to indicate that W.O.M has been overshadowed in the modern era.
We need your help to let more people know about Valley Shotokan. Please relay to us your experiences that involve our dojo. Here are the four categories which that can be done.
Valley Shotokan, what has it done to help you achieve a better quality of life?
Draw attention to any of our instructors or events.
Your impression of our age old system and it’s legacy as put forward by the SKA.
Soon we will have our first annual Steve Robbins practice. Please tell our members and potential members about our newly departed hero. This is will go on our website.
Even if you cannot train anymore, we would appreciate it if you would pay SKA dues, and as always, and we are always, we are happy to accept donations to help us move forward.
Send anything you can think of that will help us, and we will consider it for our website.
This is the email in which to reach us: [email protected]."
Today, I will be mailing out the remaining newsletters. If you are active and have not received one sometime next week, please let me know over Facebook or email and I will re-mail it to you. If you are not active and wish to receive a physical copy, it's time to pay us a visit!
Let me know if you want the newsletter digitally, and I will email you a fresh copy.
Have a great weekend!
We had a great time last week with Black Belt Christopher Hunt leading class! And look at our white belts with the 2017 newsletter! Good job everyone and keep up the great work!
[02/23/18]
On Wednesday, February 28th, Dusty DuPree will be a guest instructor at our dojo so this is not a class to miss!
The class will be $15 per black belts, $10 for brown and $5 for white.
We will start from 7:30PM so be on the dojo floor by 7:15 PM!
[01/06/18] Reminder that tomorrow mornings class is canceled for Steve Robbins memorial tomorrow. If you can make it there, please do so.
For those who may or may not know, our dear friend Steve Robin passed away early yesterday morning. Steve has been a long time member of our dojo, and a lot can be said about Steve, yet not enough can be said that would do him justice. He has been a part of our lives for many years, he taught the kids classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as being our treasurer. Most importantly, however, he was part of the Valley Dojo family.
We have gotten word that his memorial service will be on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 9:30AM at the Church of the Hills in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. HIs final resting place will be in the Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills - Woodlands, Niche Rock, 609A.
The address to the Church is 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles CA 90068
Please attend if you can.
Had a great end of the year practice. We hope everyone is having a great holiday season and a happy new year!
[08/16/17] There will be another dojo meeting tomorrow night. Times are just the same as the last time. The meeting starts at 9 PM and class starts at 7:45PM. We hope to see you there!
On Saturday, August 12, 2017, Shotokan Karate of America (“SKA”) will host its 61st Annual Nisei Week Karate Exhibition and Tournament at the Braun Gymnasium...
