March 22nd is the last day of Lobster season!
We can always count on our instructor Mr.Myung to catch the biggest and tastiest bugs!

The reason California limits lobster hunting is so that we can protect lobsters during the time of year they are molting or carrying eggs. The minimum size limit allows each lobster at least one season to reproduce before being captured. This way we can ensure that we maintain a healthy and happy lobster population and environmental balance of our coast.

Every lobster report cardholder is responsible for reporting every lobster report card by April 30 each season (even if you did not catch any)

If you want to learn how to hunt lobsters, the season will start back up again in October! Purchase gloves, bags, and lobster gauges at our shop and we’d love to teach you the way!

California Sheephead fish are one of the most popular fish for hunters in Southern California. By day they forage for food, and at night they cover themselves in mucus and hide under rocks to stay out of the eyes of predators. The males are very recognizable for their large size and distinctive black and red coloring and their large toothy smiles 😬.
Fun Fact! All sheepshead are born female, however some switch to male as adults! They are super important to the ecosystem of our coast because they help keep the forest healthy and in balance by feeding on lobsters and grazers, like urchins. However, if they are large enough, they are fair game for fisherman and make a great sashimi snack!

Sea stars belong to a group of animals called Echinoderms, which means spiny skin. They typically have 5 arms and hundreds of tube feet that are used to catch prey and move around. Sea stars are found in lower tide pool regions of the ocean, however, in California, we are lucky to be able to see the Giant Sea Star species in our rocky reefs and kelp forests!

It was amazing to see the strength and confidence of our Rescue Diver students this weekend! Rescue certification teaches you the basic skills to handle emergency situations while diving, how to keep yourself and fellow divers safe, CPR and first aid as well as search and recovery. Hello Everyone! We have a COVID update for you all.

Update 11/19/20: Due to the surge of COVID cases in California and the Los Angeles area, we have cancelled 2 upcoming boat trips on Nov 22nd and Nov 29th. Your safety is our top priority, and this decision was made in an effort to abide by the latest CDC guidelines and recommendations. As a reminder, gatherings of 15+ people should be avoided during this time! Stay safe and have a happy holiday.

For those that have purchased trip for those dates, I will hold a credit until I hear whether you would like to push your trips or simply request reimbursement. We will also exceptionally be taking students out on shore dives in the meantime.
