From public events to indoor activations, winter festivals are booming. They bring light, energy, and connection during the darkest time of year, and offer a powerful way to use venues and spaces that often sit empty from November through January. And the best part? You don’t need months of setup or permanent infrastructure!

We typically think of ice skating in the winter during the holidays.
Winter doesn’t have to be the only season with ice skating! With the right concept and an experienced partner, you can turn colder months throughout the year into a profitable, high-impact extension of your festival calendar.

Civic Plaza’s outdoor rink brought so much life to City Centre this winter.
It was wonderful to see students from the SAIL program using the rink for their PE class, spending time together and enjoying a new experience in the heart of our city.
Moments like these remind us how important it is to have welcoming spaces where people can connect and create lasting memories. I look forward to seeing the rink return next winter.

Skating at Civic Plaza has been an incredible success for our community.
Over its 12-week pilot run, Surrey’s first-ever outdoor rink welcomed more than 43,000 visitors and transformed City Centre into a lively winter destination.
It created a place where residents, students, families and seniors could connect and experience City Centre in a new way. This is exactly the kind of dynamic public space we’re committed to building — and we’re excited to bring it back next season.
