A Fun and Educational Fieldtrip to the Boston Children's Museum
on May 30, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Dance with Books Students, Parents, and I had a fun and educational experience at the Boston Children’s Museum. We especially enjoyed exploring the various shapes that bubbles can create in the “Bubbles Room”. We learned about Japanese culture in the Japanese House - a very calming place, by the way. The Art Studio gave us time and space to create a colorful shapes collage. We also appreciated that the museum has some new hands-on, interactive exhibits, well, new to us, from our prior year visit. The museum staff and docents were welcoming and professional. Thank you again for the sponsored visit to the Boston Children’s Museum. As always, in the many years Dance with Books has visited your museum, the fieldtrip is an educational and engaging experience.

Hello Parents and Students,
Happy Cinco de mayo! (Saturday, May 5)

On Friday, Dance with Books Students enjoyed practicing the Mexican dance "La Raspa". This dance has a pattern of three heel touches and two claps. Students also had to cooperate with their partners to swing/turn and rotate in opposite directions.

Students attentively listened to the book, "Cinco de mayo: Celebrating the Traditions of Mexico" written by Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith. They were engaged: asking questions, making comments, and sharing experiences about Mexican culture and the Cinco de mayo Holiday.

Also, Students had fun playing maracas and dancing to Mariachi music from Mexico.

[04/16/18]   In mid-April, we have a Guest Artist teaching the class. Mr. Mendoza (Lyla’s Dad) and his drum Students will be teaching Merengue and Afro/Cuban rhythms and steps to the Dance with Books Students and me. Very exciting!

[04/16/18]   Boston Marathon. We all race. We all win. Boston Strong.

[01/01/18]   Happy New Year! I am still teaching my "Dance with Books" program at the Trotter School and Mather School. I stepped out on a creative limb to form a Dance Team comprised of former (and now older) "Dance with Books" Students (Trotter School). Peace...

[11/23/17]   Have a festive and fun Thanksgiving! Be Grateful!

[11/24/16]   Tempos in music and dance are slow, medium, and fast. Students explored doing movements to various tempos. Then, we did the Chicken Dance which starts with a medium tempo, then progresses to fast, and super fast. The Chicken Dance also teaches students about movement patterns. You can look up the Chicken Dance on YouTube. It`s a fun dance to do with your child - maybe even your Thanksgiving guests.
