[02/08/20]   Going for a run or getting on the elliptical, bike or treadmill burns calories & gets you sweaty but it won't burn much fat - unless you run a lot! HIIT (high-intensity interval training) maximizes fat-loss you get out of a workout in less time.
HIIT involves intervals of high-intensity exercise that elevate the heart rate — and intervals of rest that bring it back down,"
Since your body works at a higher intensity during those intervals, your body continues burning calories for more than 24 hours after your workout.
Strength training (weights) also ultimately burns more fat as it boosts your metabolism when your muscles are recuperating from the workout, so you burn fat/calories for 24 -to 48 hours.
I include plyo in many of my clients' sessions to get in some intensity during weight training.
I also include going faster and slower (interval intensity) in their program for when they do cardio by themselves.
Get a good PT (like me) to evaluate your workouts and routine!
It's worth your time and effort and help you burn fat, gain strength and make strides in your fitness!

[01/31/20]   Shoes may be the most important aspect of working out at the gym. Wear ONLY shoes that support your feet while working out. Pick a shoe meant for this specific activity e.g. Balance is important for weight training, certain shoes are right for Zumba, indoor vs outdoor cycle etc

[01/31/20]   Want to lose 10, 20, 30+ lbs FAST? Not gonna happen. There are no longlasting quick diets or detoxes. Quick starvation diets wreak havoc on your metabolism and regauge it so most people end up gaining more weight in the long run than when they started.
The only thing that will help you lose fat safely and keep it off is the old "calories in, calories out" daily and for life. Consistent exercise with slow and steady weight loss is the easiest to maintain forever, so go for losing 1 to 2lbs a week.

[01/26/20]   Humans need a bit of animal protein, most preferably organic. Why? Because we need b12, pure complete protein and iron. We do not have the gut bacteria and one organ that Herbivores do to get b12 and other minerals and trace proteins.
Carnivores typically have only one stomach chamber and a simple digestive system.
Herbivores can often have several stomach chambers and a much longer digestive tract.
Herbivores with multiple stomach chambers — such as camels, deer, sheep, giraffes and cattle — are called ruminants.
So, a steak, fish &/or or poultry 2-4x a month is good if you lean towards vegan/vegetarian.
And do monitor your thyroid and other hormones, not JUST cholesterol, blood pressure and weight.

[01/17/20]   Detox? Truth: we have a natural detox system in our body that works very well when treated well. The liver does a great job of flushing out waste every day, our lungs breathe out pollutants, our kidneys filter out toxins, and our digestive system lets things pass through that we don't need.

[01/17/20]   A Fitness Assessment is vital if you’re a newbie to strength training or getting older and you’re noticing waking and cardio is hurting your joint or just isn’t enough. A good Personal Trainer can identify your strengths and weaknesses and then guide you with right type of exercises for YOU AND which ones -due to your weaknesses or challenges- you should avoid for now and help you get stronger, fitter, and better. It’s not a waste of money, it’s a return on your mental, physical and monetary investment!

[01/10/20]   More Muscle IS NEEDED AFTER YOU TURN 40
As people enter their forties and fifties, muscle mass starts to decline because of aging and, in some cases, decreased activity levels. Muscular atrophy can also occur because of health conditions such as joint pain. As we age, it’s important to increase or maintain muscle mass through strength training, not only because it helps burn calories, but also because muscle mass is essential for strength and balance.

[11/29/19]   Your Thanksgiving Meal may have added up to between 2000 and nearly 3000 calories, and that’s not counting any drinks or alcohol! (or pre-meal noshing). Don’t mindlessly snack on leftovers! Count them as your meals, and exercise! Excess calories enter your fat cells, causing weight gain. It doesn't stop there; the average American eats an extra 619 calories every day throughout the holiday season!
Look it’s great to partake in the holiday parties and get-togethers, but they’re about talking and caroling and spending time with friends, co-workers and family not binging!
Look at your schedule for the entire month of December right on through New Year’s Day and see where you can fit in DAILY exercise! If you feel overwhelmed by having to shop, attend holiday parties, take your kids to holiday festivals etc., etc.… on those days plan and PUT IN YOUR CALENDAR at exactly what time you’ll work out. Don’t give up thinking that not having enough time for a full workout or class you just won’t workout at all. A good personal trainer can show you how to jack up the intensity of your workouts when you’re with her or alone. Working out even just 20 twenty minutes in your living room is great! Pick a circuit workout! Air squats, bridges, and all kinds of exercises with a resistance band, and don’t forget the amazing full body core and muscle PUSH UPS! Do the kind you can -against a desk, a coffee table, a wall, on the floor – whatever works for you!
Take a healthy dish to your holiday parties, drink water or club soda in between any alcoholic ones, and do focus on the conversation, not the buffet table!
And remember my mantra… Eat! Just don’t Overeat! Also, hugging, laughing and kissing can take time, and burn a half a calorie. Seriously, hugging can burn up to about 4 calories per hug. Look it up.
