Activities focus on developing the skills involved in various sports and gross motor skill activities such as soccer, basketball, throwing, catching and running; and incorporate elements of yoga, dance, games, and the promotion of healthy nutrition, as teaching children to make healthy choices at an early age is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Fit For a Kid Nature Explorers is an ongoing series of meetups for families to discover, explore, feel, and smell a ton of things in nature, as we celebrate having this marvelous Earth as our home! Our location changes for each journey, so stay tuned! ~Nutrition Education & Gardening~ The sad reality is that many children don't know where their food comes from. In fact, many of them think food originates at the grocery store. They don't have access to fresh produce, and don't realize the relationship between eating healthy food and having the energy to run and play. They don't know, until they are educated by someone, or participate in programs, like Fit Kids 1st / Fit For a Kid’s Nutrition Education Program. In the meantime, here are 4 tips for staying healthy and well this school year:
EAT REAL FOOD - The food you eat has a direct impact on the health of your body. Fill it with chemical-laden packaged and fast food, and your body will make you pay for it. Fill it with wholesome, real foods and you will reap the rewards.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER - Make sure water is your family’s go-to beverage. Since our body is around 70% water, it needs a lot of water to stay hydrated.
GO OUTSIDE AND SOAK UP THE SUNSHINE - Vitamin D has been shown to be critical in maintaining health. Make sure to get 10-15 minutes of exposure to direct sunlight every day to optimize your body’s vitamin D levels.
MOVE YOUR BODY - Exercise is so important! Make sure to get at least 45 minutes of activity per day (playing outside counts).
