My baseball credentials can be found below:
Coach Flatt began playing baseball at 3 years old. His defensive ability at SS initially got him playing time until the 6th grade when his first travel baseball team needed him to pitch out of necessity. He finished that season as the most consistent pitcher on the team due to his control. In High School, he started at 3B and was the #2 pitcher for McKinney North’s Varsity Team that went to the 4A Texas state semi-finals in 2006 after beating a Highland Park Team that featured MLB pitcher Clayton Kershaw & NFL QB Matthew Stafford. Coach Flatt was 1 of only 3 players to get a hit off Kershaw in the playoff series.
Wanting to attend a 4-year program, he turned down a JUCO offer out of high school to try out for San Diego State as a walk on pitcher, but an elbow injury forced him to quit playing competitiv1ely. He did play for two more years at SS for an Independent League team. While his playing career was winding down, Coach Flatt got his first big break working in Major League Baseball, interning with the Washington Nationals (Ballpark Operations) during the summer of 2008.
After college, Coach Flatt stopped his playing career to focus on working in Major League Baseball. He worked for 3 more teams, including the New York Mets (Video Scouting), Cincinnati Reds (Baseball Operations) & Tampa Bay Rays (Player Development). Over his professional career, he has worked extensively with players such as Collin McHugh, Wilmer Flores, Homer Bailey, Joey Votto and Kevin Kiermaier. With the Reds, he also worked closely with Manager Dusty Baker to prepare the team for upcoming opponents by leveraging both scouting reports and video analysis. For the last three fall seasons, Coach Flatt has been a head coach in the 16U Glendale Babe Ruth Baseball League.
