Thanks to all who came on Sunday for the first fitness for longevity class! Classes are officially on, 4 PM Tuesday and 8 AM Sunday at CrossFit 323.

Can eccentric training help prevent hamstring strains?

One article in particular stuck out to me: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18390492
They sorted over 500 soccer players into 3 groups:
1. Low risk for hamstring injury
2. High Risk, no intervention (control group)
3. High Risk, with program designed to improve strength and mobility.
They found little difference between the 2 High Risk groups, mainly because less than 20% of the soccer players in the High risk intervention group completed the minimum amount of training(!!).
My take from this study is that the athletes at high risk for injury, even knowing they are at high risk for injury, are not taking the low hanging fruit and working to get better at the problems that limit their athletic performance. Fascinating.
