Many of the kids practice at Penmar Park and use the Penmar recreation area. The surrounding community is asking the city of LA to grant the north side of Rose Ave to Recs & Park so that this can be maintained and the community can beautify it. We the community are asking for your signature for support (no donations yet) so that we can see a wonderful Penmar Park space

Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American 04/30/2016

Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American

I'm posting this on behalf of The Skirball Center. Your little league players will receive free admission if they wear all/part of their uniform.

Dear North Venice Little League,

The Skirball Cultural Center is proud to announce that the exhibition Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American is now open! Discover the stories of baseball's players, fans, and visionaries—from Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax to Jackie Robinson, Fernando Valenzuela, Ichiro Suzuki, and more—who changed the game that changed the nation. Featuring more than 130 treasured objects, Chasing Dreams illustrates America's national pastime as a pathway for American Jews and other immigrant and minority communities to become American.

AS A LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM IN OUR AREA, THE SKIRBALL WOULD LIKE TO OFFER YOUR PLAYERS FREE ADMISSION!

Little leaguers, come in your uniforms to receive FREE admission to the Skirball’s baseball exhibitions! Wear your jersey, pants, hats, or your whole uniform (no cleats please!) and mention this offer for entry to Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American and The Unauthorized History of Baseball in 100-Odd Paintings: The Art of Ben Sakoguchi. Gallery admission to Noah’s Ark at the Skirball is subject to availability. Players must be present at time of purchase. May not be combined with any other offer. Valid for ages 4–16. Offer expires October 30, 2016.

While you are here, also view The Unauthorized History of Baseball in 100-Odd Paintings: The Art of Ben Sakoguchi, an exhibition showcasing the colorful, captivating, and often provocative paintings by Los Angeles artist Ben Sakoguchi (b. 1938) that examine how baseball reflects both the highs and lows of American culture.

All the best,

Sara Marino

Picture Day

Our spring events are rapidly approaching.

April 9th is one of the biggest days of the year at NVLL. We have three events that day:

A) Picture Day 7:00am - 3:00pm

Schedule here: http://www.northvenice.org/Default.aspx?tabid=297516

B) Pancake Breakfast 9:00am - 11:30am

This is an annual fundraiser for NVLL. Your $7 donation buys 2 pancakes, two sausage links, juice or milk.

C) Pitch Hit & Run competition 10:00am - 2:00pm

This is an annual skills competition open to all of our players. For info about PHR, please click here: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/kids/mlb_pitch_hit_run_coordinators.jsp

Ages 10-12 11:00 - 12:00pm

Also approaching is Dodger Day. Each year, over 400 players, coaches & family members from NVLL attend a Dodgers game together. This year will be our biggest yet as we’ll be attending the April 17th game versus the San Francisco Giants. Game time is at 5:00pm. Tickets are $30 each. We sell the tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. So please turn in your order to your team rep or directly to the Snack Shack where they will be numbered in order they are received.

Due to the maintenance of the fields we are running behind schedule. Games on the Minor field are running one hour behind schedule. Games on the Major field are running 30 minutes behind schedule. It will probably make sense to add these delays to your arrival time at the field, though your coach will likely have the final word on that.

03/12/2016

The fields are open! Thanks to John Knight and our dedicated volunteers who work early this morning to get things back in shape.

03/06/2016

Good morning. We have a lot of water on the fields this morning and the fields are currently closed. However, we will try to open the Major and Junior fields by 1pm. The Minor field will stay closed all day.

02/27/2016

Reminder that today from 10am to Noon at the field will be our annual volunteer day. We've had a crew of volunteers working the fields all week and they are just about ready for opening day tomorrow. Today please help us add that final level of polish and readiness for the season. Please join for all or part of the two hours. If you can bring light equipment like mowers, edgers, trimmers, etc. that would be very helpful.

We are postponed due to rain. Thank you for your patience and apologies to anyone who was heading up to the field already.

We will still be holding registration today between 10am - Noon.

Rain altered evaluation schedule:

Monday, 2.1 10, 11 & 12 year olds at 4:00 pm.

Tuesday, 2.2 8 & 9 year olds at 4:00 pm.

Thursday 2.4 Final 10, 11 & 12 at 4:00 pm

Saturday 2.6 Final 8 & 9 at 9:00am to 10:30am. 7 year olds on minor field at 9:00 am.

01/31/2016

It's perhaps good timing this evening to talk about NVLL's rain procedures and tomorrow's evaluations.

In general, we do not preemptively cancel games, practices, evaluations, etc. Once it starts raining (or if it has rained overnight) we make an assessment, taking into consideration player safety and field maintenance. If we close the fields, we will post to Facebook, Twitter and our home page (you'll find field status on the right side of the front page). In some cases we'll also email the league.

So with that being said, evaluations are currently still moving forward tomorrow as the rain hasn't started yet. We do, however, have a backup plan with some makeup dates outlined below. Please note that if evaluations do continue tomorrow we will not be holding the makeup sessions.

Current forecasts suggest that the rain will happen, so it's mainly a question of how many of the evaluations we can get in before that happens. We hope all of them.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

01/26/2016

Good morning, everyone. We are now wait-listed for three of our boys' divisions - Farm, Minors & Majors. We do have more volunteers interested in coaching, and are feeling optimistic about our ability to add more teams. Please do not let a wait-listing discourage you from signing up. Knowing early that the demand for more teams exists allows us to scale up to meet that demand. So, please don't delay and please do register at www.northvenice.org.

01/22/2016

North Venice Little League > Home

Thank you for the flood of online reservations this week. As of today, we've already filled 10 teams in our Upper Divisions and have gone to wait list for Farm. Evaluations are always our largest registration days, so avoid the wait list by registering online at www.northvenice.org.

League evaluations will be held on Saturday, January 23rd and Sunday, January 31st at our field. Players need to attend only one of the two days. We will be accepting registrations during evaluations, and all players must be registered before taking the field for their evaluation.

Evaluations serve a number of purposes including helping our players shake out the cobwebs, helping our coaches in the lower divisions balance the teams, serving as a scout session for coaches in the “draft” divisions of Minors and Majors, and helping you to steer your players toward the right division if you’re unsure.

Please note we've had a schedule change for 7 year olds who want to play Farm, from a 2:30pm start to a 3:30pm start.

Baseball Evaluations Schedule, (Per “League Age” at:

http://bit.ly/1EZUBjp

8:00 am 8 year olds
9:15 am 9 year olds
10:45 am 10 year olds
12:00 pm 11 year olds
1:15 pm 12 year olds
3:30 pm 7 Year olds interested in playing Farm (**new time**)

Evaluations Guidelines

All players 8 and up (and 7 year olds interested in Farm) MUST attend one of the two January evaluations. This includes returning Majors players. Tee Ball and 5 Pitch players do not need to attend evaluations.

Everyone will be placed on a team. Reinforcing that message may help to cut down on the butterflies that some players feel.

Please show up 30 minutes prior to your scheduled evaluation time to stretch and warm up. Evaluations will begin promptly, so there is no time to do those things once underway. A proper warm up is a great way to positively influence a player's confidence and enjoyment of the evaluation.

Players should come dressed in baseball attire, with protective cup and cleats. Players will be fielding, throwing and hitting as age appropriate.

Girls softball evaluations will happen in mid-February. Date TBD.

If you’ll be registering before your evaluation and are new to the league, please bring an original birth certificate and proof of your address (or school) within our league boundaries.

The field is located at 3321 Grand View Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066 and can also be entered up the driveway at the intersection of Centinela and Rose.

Returning players can register at www.northvenice.org.

New this year is a huge price break in our Tee Ball division - $100 for the season. All other divisions have held their pricing flat from last season.

North Venice Little League has been a neighborhood institution for more than 50 years. We look forward to seeing you for our 2016 season.
