When any horses have been standing in their stalls, and they haven’t had a chance to stretch or move on their own terms or shake off whatever energy has been building up. I recommend lunging them. Lunging gives them that release before I ask anything of them. For my young horses, that’s even more important. A little window of movement before the work begins as how their brain shift gears, from just existing to pay attention to being ready to learn. I get so much more from them when I let them arrive there first.
