In this wild and hilarious episode, I sit down with actor, producer, and legendary Filipino comedian Erick Esteban.

The catch? Erick knows nearly nothing about golf, having last swung a club over two decades ago.

We dive into a raw and natural conversation in Erick’s backyard, just a mile from DeBell Golf Course, covering everything from why YouTube golfers are more popular than PGA Tour pros to whether we’ll ever see Tiger Woods play on TV again.

The real spectacle happens when we hit the driving range. Watch as Erick takes some truly chaotic hacks with a classic Ping Zing 2 pitching wedge, resulting in some "impressive" hosel rockets and accidental stingers. From Happy Gilmore references to discussing the "fried egg" in a bunker, this is a must-watch for anyone who loves funny golf content or wants to witness the pure beginner chaos of a golf newbie.

In this episode, we discuss:

- The 20-Year Layoff: Erick’s first swings since his early 30s.
- Hosel Rockets vs. Happy Gilmores: Learning the hard way where the "sweet spot" isn't.
- Golf Terminology 101: Erick tries to guess what a "fried egg," "stinger," and "toe hang" actually mean.
- Pop Culture & Sports: Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James, 80s movie sequels (Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo), and the impact of the YouTube creator space on golf.

Enjoy.

I used to be the guy with a plastic bag full of 12 different brands, convinced that as a 14-handicap, the ball didn't really matter. I was a skeptic—until I walked into Club Champion in Torrance, CA.

I met with Master Fitter Jacob, and we went to work in the hitting bay. Powered by Trackman, PING’s Ballnamic, and an AI Co-Pilot, we didn't just look at brand names—we looked at the physics of my game.

The Test Subjects:

🚀 Driver: Cobra Darkspeed X (9°) | VA Slay Stiff

🎯 6-Iron: TaylorMade P790 (2021) | KBS Tour V Stiff | BB&F Ferrules

We factored in everything: ball speed, spin rate, launch angle, and even the 3,000ft altitude I play at Valle del Sol in San Jose, Costa Rica. 🇨🇷

I told Jacob I needed performance, but I didn't have a $60/dozen budget. The data-driven winner? The Wilson Triad.

I took the Triad Raw out to Alondra Golf Course to see if the data translated to the turf. Testing my thrifted NIKE Method Matters M5|10 putter and 60° Vokey SM9, the "Raw" finish provided insane grip in the bunkers and a muted, soft feel on the greens.

Does golf ball consistency = Lower Scores? Follow my golf journey.

My shortgame was trash today.

I’ve heard the legend: at Valle del Sol, if a greenskeeper finds your ball, they bring it back. 🧐 I’m putting my brand new, custom-fitted Wilson Triads on the line to see if it’s true. Marked, dropped, and now... we wait. ⛳️🇨🇷

Thrifted this Nike Method Matter M5|10 putter for $30.

Love it so much, it replaced my LAB DF3.

Thrifted this week for $30.

The Nike Method Matter series was one of Nike’s last major pushes into high-end golf hardware before they exited the club-making business. The "M5-10" and "M5-12" you’re referring to are part of the RTS (Return to Square) system, designed to help golfers pick a putter based on their specific stroke arc.

Here is the breakdown of that specific mallet:

The "RTS" System Explained
The RTS label is the most important part of the name. Nike simplified fitting into three categories:

M5-10 (Square): Typically face-balanced, designed for a straight-back, straight-through stroke.

M5-12 (Arc): Designed for a slight or strong arc stroke, usually featuring a bit of "toe hang" despite being a mallet.
Key Features of the M5 Mallet
RZN Groove Insert: This was Nike’s "secret sauce." It uses a polymer resin (the same stuff they used in their golf balls) to soften the feel. The grooves are designed to grab the ball and start it rolling forward immediately, reducing the "skid" you get with flat-faced putters.

304 Stainless Steel: The head is milled from 304 stainless steel, which is softer than the industry-standard 303. This gives it a "buttery" feel rather than a "clicky" sound at impact.

Length-Specific Weighting: Nike adjusted the head weight based on the shaft length. If you have a 33" putter, the head is heavier to maintain a consistent swing weight compared to a 35" version.
CounterFlex Options: Some models in this line featured a "CounterFlex" grip, which allowed you to slide a weight inside the shaft to find your personal balance preference.

I'm finally revealing my secret golf source in Southern California.

For the last few years, this one booth at the Roadium (Gardena) has been my go-to for every thrifted set, vintage putter, and bag you’ve seen on this channel. From Ping Eye irons to rare drivers, Quan always has the heat.

If you’re in LA and looking to build a bag on a budget or find a diamond in the rough, go see Quan. Tell him I sent you.

Calling all gear nerds and club builders! 🛠️ My Nike Tour Blade took a nasty hit today. Does a ding this size actually impact the aerodynamics/spin of the ball, or am I overthinking it? I'm torn between trying to sand it down or just leaving it alone. What would you do?

First round in LA in 6 months. Felt great to be out there again.

Solid round for the first time playing golf in LA.

Welcome home.

Great day catching up with a familiar face at a local classic! Had the legend Tattooed Joe (past guest on my Between Two Bags show) out for a round at Chester Washington Golf Course in LA.
The golf was pure style, but the finish was high-end art. Joe took a Sharpie to my Wilson Triad at the end of the round and created a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
If you’re a local, you know Chester is the spot. Check out the custom ink! ⛳️🖋️
