This is an actual TGIF face. Remember them?! 🤪

I have not posted any real educational content on this grid, which has been my objective for a while because... i’ve been working for several weeks straight to get the studio fully open! And it’s happening. Finally. Next week will have transferred our entire online schedule minus a couple of classes into the studio, pretty amazing. (and yes we will keep it hybrid).

Expansions and contractions in life come in waves. And when we are in one phase or another we often have that feeling that we wish we were in a different place. But I can honestly say with my full heart, I am loving this moment of expansion.

I would like to give a shout out to the team that have been working so hard alongside me. what can I say you’re my wing woman. benson as always solid as a rock. bringing in the love and education as we expand our offerings. And to all the teachers at thank you for getting us to this point I love you all❤️❤️

We were able to get away this week to my cousins place in Stinson Beach.
I never take for granted any of those moments in life that serve up such beauty and privilege that I can hardly catch my breath.
To walk the ocean, to just spend some quiet time listening to the tides and to take stock of this last year was a gift.
I was even able to teach a class to my students which just over a year ago I don’t think I could’ve pulled off.
Thank you to my soul sister
2020 was s**t in so many ways. But it brought you into my life ❤️❤️ can’t wait for your ‘city’ retreat 😆

My own personal ‘Ganesha’, Smitty guards the door as I practice today.

I didn’t grow up with dogs and now I have two.

Smitty joined us a couple of years ago, and quickly attached himself to me. This was a new experience to have a dog look for me, follow me around and choose me to rest beside.

They have been a blessing during the pandemic, bringing just enough chaos and joy to the house to remind us that life is still happening.

Did you get a pandemic puppy? And if you have a pet what are they going to do when we start leaving the house again??

It’s been a very unique teaching year. We are born to adapt and adapt we have. If you’ve wondered what taking my class is like from a students perspective you can thank for sharing her practice with us.

“We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us and make us kinder and more open to what scares us. We always have this choice.”

This teaching seem particularly apt at this moment as so much suffering is being felt. You can feel that many are allowing the pandemic to harden them, that the cry’s that the virus isn’t that bad, even though so many are losing their loved ones tragically. Perhaps the suffering is too much to look at for some as their own pain goes unaddressed, ignored.

It’s a good practice to breathe in the suffering of others, just for a moment, to soften the heart, to connect us to others pain. This is a buddhist practice of the awakened heart.
This is how we move forward. To connect to all of humanity.
We can soften again and again to our suffering and the suffering of others.

This awakened soft heart is perhaps what it means to be human?

“If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear hardship today.”
Hold on, it will get better. Keep a seed of hope in your heart to vanquish cynicism. Cynicism strangles joy and holds a life well-lived at arms length.
. . . . .

Perhaps some of the pain in your body is because of the way you stand?

The orange plumb line down the body shows the ideal why to stack your bones is to have the middle of your ear, middle of your shoulder, hip and heel line up.

Do you look more like the person on the left? Everything is forward of that line, which can mean that my low back or the back of my neck may be constantly contracting try to pull me back.

Swipe to see some quick actions to get you aligned!

1. Move the top of your thighs straight back.

2. Stretch up your abdominals (rather that squeeze them in) and your back body.

3. Move your head back.

Notice now that my butt is lifted, and my tailbone is no longer tucked? I now have access to my glutes, yea!

Let me know how it feels for you?

Patience is the antidote to anger, a way to learn to love and care for whatever we meet on the path.

By patience, we do not mean endurance-as in “grin and bear it.” In any situation, instead of reacting suddenly, we could chew it, smell it, look at it, and open ourselves to seeing what’s there.

The opposite of patience is aggression-the desire to jump and move, to push against our lives, to try to fill up space. The journey of patience involves relaxing, opening to what’s happening, experiencing a sense of wonder
-Pema Chodron.

How can we move forward in this time without some patience? Without some curiosity?

At some point in time liquid soap made its way into my life, not sure when or how (i’ll blame my husband). I know, what the hell, who cares Claire?

Well, I realize this is how things just got outta hand.
What was wrong with a bar of soap? When did it get hard to use soap, so hard that we had to have it liquified and put in a plastic bottle?
So, just like that, we all started to buy liquified soap, in thick plastic bottles. Cause this is what we do now.
And when I think of the amount of plastic I’ve used to just to have soap flowwwww to me rather than spend the extra ten seconds to rub a bit of hard soap on my body.

Time to turn the clock back on some things. Killing the planet is not progress.

What are your favorite things you’ve picked up or dropped that are Mother Earth friendly recently??

There is a crisis in our community.

This is not the first time i've posted about QAnon, and wish it was the last, but probably not.

There has always been a thread of anti-science and intersection of anti-vac in the yoga community. In cult studies it shows that once you believe in one conspiracy theory you then basically fall like a house of cards for any others that come across your plate. Your mind starts to look for the bias it has already accepted.
Ahh neuroscience.

The new trend now I see on threads is posting QAnon conspiracy and then vigorously denying that you follow Q. There's one of two things happening here; Either they do follow it and the new 'order' from Q is to deny that you do. Or they've picked up threads of it from other places and have integrated it into their own mythos and really haven't done their research, oh the irony.

Someone on a thread told me to 'enjoy my mask-wearing' and my mandatory vaccine. This is the disintegration of critical thinking. This was from someone who purports to heal people. WTF.
Yes, I will enjoy wearing my mask to protect myself and others.
Yes, I enjoy getting myself and my family vaccines and join in a long line of people who have benefited from vaccines and eradicated terrifying diseases that would rob families of children for centuries.

We must as teachers do better guiding our community into critical thinking skills. I think every teacher training now needs a 'how to verify sources of information as you’re doing your research’ Module. Everyone needs to learn some basic journalistic standards to hold onto their integrity.

*Please note, if you post any anti-vaccine nonsense on this thread it will deleted. Is there such of thing as vaccine injuries? Of course. But I put my kid in my car every day and her percentage of dying in a car is exponentially enormous compared to any type of vaccine injury.

Step away from the screen. You’ll feel better for it.

If you’re not following historian, Heather Cox Richardson, go find her now. She will bring some solace to the chaos of disinformation and strong-arming we see by a corrupt administration.

"Our nation faces headwinds, for sure. We simply must get the coronavirus pandemic under control, and then address the extremes of wealth and poverty in this country. Fixing healthcare, systemic racism and sexism, climate change, and education all must be on the table as we move firmly into the twenty-first century. It sounds like a daunting list, but after years of apathy while a few wealthy Americans tightened their grip on the nation, Americans have woken up to the fact that democracy is not a spectator sport."

"We are taking back our country, and once we have done so, we will find that no problem is insurmountable."

"Democracy is rising. It might not win on Tuesday—no jinxing here!—but if not then, the week after that, or the month after, or the year after. After more than thirty years studying our country's history, I have come to believe in American democracy with an almost religious faith.
And then, with our country free again, the future looks wildly exciting, full of different voices, races, abilities, religions, foods, gender identities, books, ideas, inventions, music, clothing, political identities, perspectives. In the past, when we have come through a period in which a small group of Americans has taken control of our society and ordinary Americans have taken it back, industry, art, science, and civil rights have blossomed. For my part, I don’t expect to like everything that happens in such a fertile world, but I do expect to learn, and grow, and feel privileged to watch the construction of a world that reflects our people at their best.”
