In addition to each category having its own final boulder — the trademark highlight of Beat the Heat — categories are genderless as well.
We are curious about how eliminating gendered categories may help dismantle the barriers that, while arguably constructed in an attempt at fairness, ultimately sustain the status quo of unequal representation within a competition.
We've seen great diversity in both our competitors and last year's winners, and hope to see even greater diversity this coming BTH. We encourage climbers of all genders (and skill levels!) to participate to help us showcase and celebrate what we know to be true — that climbing is for everyone, and every body.
Registration is open for our 3rd annual Beat the Heat which falls on Saturday, August 15th. For more on genderless categories and to sign up for this year's BTH, click the link: strongholdclimb.com/ep/beattheheat

The same weather pattern as today is predicted. This photo shows the air at 9:30 am. By mid-afternoon, winds picked up and air quality was healthy.
We will have regular hours (6 am - 10 pm) at Echo Park. Please climb with us there if you were planning a morning or early-afternoon session at Lincoln Heights.
Apologies for the disruption and wishing the success in fighting the blaze!
