Lift Vets

We are a nonprofit dedicated to serving veterans of recent conflicts by facilitating reintegration through physical, social, and mental fitness

The model of Lift Vets rests on three pillars - Physical, Social, and Mental health. We provide mindfulness training and EMDR services that assist the Gulf War II era (GW2) Veteran with issues created by military service.

Typical scenario Typical Gulf War 2 Veterans (GW2) will initially engage with Lift Vets through our physical fitness or social programming; these include boot camps, individual training sessions, group fitness classes, and social events. During the fitness programming, new members are trained in mindfulness techniques. Any new member showing signs of trauma are encouraged to advance their mindfulness training through mediation and group exercises. During this time, they will engage in learning feeling states, basic strategies for emotional regulation, and the creation of a wellness recovery action plan (WRAP). For some veterans, these levels of treatment will be sufficient. For others, requiring more attention, individual psychotherapy, including EMDR treatment, will be offered. Should further treatment be necessary (ie. medication), outside referrals will be provided. Programming- Group fitness classes will be available though Lift Vets Gym during designated hours. Classes will be taught by veterans and are to include, Crossfit, circuit training, and Powerlifting. These programs will be heavily marketed as an introduction to Lift Vets' programming. We will use top of the line fitness equipment to support the health needs and various activities of members. Free weights, resistance machines, kettle bells, heavy and speed bags, stationary bikes and other cardiovascular equipment, are some of the items that will be made available to members for group and individual fitness training. Mental fitness groups will be centered around lending the member a visceral experience of the concepts they have learned. Activities such as Mindful Exercise, Yoga, and Tai Chi, will teach members important therapeutic concepts including mindfulness, body and spacial awareness, grounding, and emotional regulation. The members will also learn to set and achieve attainable goals to further support their intentions for a healthy lifestyle. Other groups will include meditation practice, peer-based recovery, substance abuse, art therapy, basic life skills, and social skills. These will support members in addressing all facets of reintegration. Lift Vets social will have a heavy influence on the Lift Vets Gym programming. Coordinated events will focus members on team building, peer support, healthy competition, mentoring, and achievement of goals. Exercises of one on one, and group physical training, hosted by veterans, will teach members to identify and achieve their fitness goals, practice consistency, and engage in peer support. Teams, within the Lift Vets Gym, will practice healthy competition though physical activities such as weight lifting, cardiovascular exercise, and healthy diet. Other social events will include hiking, surf camps, camping, barbeques and other food events, beach trips and beach meditations. Some events, such as bungee jumping and sky diving, will be outsourced by donor organizations. Lift Vets therapy will include individual and group sessions. These will be facilitated by a licensed clinician who specializes in evidence based treatments; EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, couples and family therapy. Once members have completed therapy they are encourage to remain active participants in social and fitness activities with Lift Vets.

Mission: Our mission is to lift the contemporary Veteran by supporting reintegration through social, physical, and mental fitness.

Help Veterans adjust to civilian life

Lift Vets serves Veterans of recent conflicts. Our intention is to support them in living healthy lives and successfully reintegrating into civilian life after leaving the military. We do this by offering mind/body integration classes that support physical, social, and mental fitness. Our team consists of a certified personal trainer and substance abuse counselor, a licensed therapist, experienced meditation practitioners, and a supportive community of veterans; all having the intention of building a community focused on overall wellness. Beyond the weekly groups already taking place, we are launching an individual outpatient program, and group therapy, that helps veterans gain the skills for accomplishing goals in three major life domains: physical, social, mental. This is an early intervention to support Veterans who might be at risk for homelessness and suicide.
Our Tough Mudder campaign is the first step toward being able to fund these programs and continue helping those who gave so much for our freedom. Our Veterans are running this race to raise awareness about issues vets face and raise money for our program.
If you feel inspired to help Veterans regain balance and become active members of the greater community, please follow the link and donate whatever you feel comfortable with. If you cannot afford a donation, please share this message! Thank you. Here is an opportunity to make an impact on the lives of Veterans with a contribution! I, and 10 other veterans, will be running the Tough Mudder to raise money for Veterans. The Tough Mudder: 10 miles of grueling obstacle courses and teamwork is a must!

Here's What Google Teaches Employees In Its 'Search Inside Yourself' Course

As you know, we are not just about doing fitness activities. Included in all of our events is a meditation period that supports a daily mindfulness practice. This not only supports healing in a variety of ways, it also promotes success in areas such as careers, relationships, and general happiness. It looks like Google feels the same as they have started a mindfulness course for their employees, which has become extremely successful. Check out the article: Google's class on mindfulness training, called "Search Inside Yourself," regularly has a wait list stretching six months.
