We will be hosting our Winter Kata Contest on November 13th.
Kata is a cooperative effort between a team of two contestants or one contestant and a "uke" (Non-Competitive Partner who receives the techniques)
A Kata contest helps students hone their jujitsu techniques as they work to put together their presentation for 8 techniques and a choreographed combative sequence. ( These can be funny, serious, or a little of both.)
They will be placed in a division with other students of similar age and experience levels.
Children who are involved in healthy competition may:
ask to participate in the activity again
be able to win and lose gracefully
learn new skills and want to better themselves
enjoy improved self-esteem
"Competition helps kids learn that it is not always the best or the brightest who are successful, but rather those that work hard and stick with it,"(They) "earn critical social skills through interacting with other children, while also learning the value of hard work and developing self-esteem and self-efficacy."

campers!
We are fast approaching that time of year! We are reopening Camp South on our typical weekend; the first weekend of
December.

Mt. Pali Retreat and Conference Center, Running Springs, CA

Cost:
$230.00. This includes 5 Meals, Cabin, all classes. It starts Friday afternoon at 4PM and ends around lunch time Sunday. This is our typical time period.We have kept the cost down over many years but the camp has raised their fees quite a bit to compensate for COVID and so we are raising the rate a small
amount.
Theme:
This year's theme is
Ikigai
which means a sense of purpose, a sense of living. So why and how DZR is a part of our lives…Today more than ever such terms are so relevant. We are perched in my opinion, more than ever, to provide something so needed in our country today; respect, honor, discipline, etc. To such themes and meaning we are dedicating ourselves and practicing at camp to further such
ideals.
To practice this theme at camp we are organizing classes both martial as well as healing, etc,. to draw out such principles to further our education in our wonderful
system,
As far as COVID goes, the camp folks have spent a lot of time reassuring me they
follow very strict protocols regarding sanitation etc. We will also have our own section over the weekend and plenty of areas to feel safe during your stay. Windows in the cabins can be opened for ventilation as well as our work out rooms. So, we recommend the following safety nets to use for our overall well being:
Wear
a mask as you feel comfortable doing so.
Get vaccines or boosters to assist in your overall
protection.
Take a test before
arriving.
We are, based on current conditions, not enforcing any of these and leave this to you to address according to your personal medical health and well being. It is our strong hope that by December we will not see a major surge of COVID and will instead see the typical colds and flus for the
winter season. So all typical precautions apply.
This year due to costs and other reasons we are limiting the camp to 50 people including instructors at the above mentioned rate. We can have more attendees but they will be charged a higher rate and we will need to know who they are two weeks before the
event. So, get your registration in as soon as possible to secure your spot this year!
Every year we do all we can to give the finest instruction and always include something never done before. This year will be no
different.

Happy Monday!
What looks like a fun children's game at the end of class time is really much more.
Our version of Red Light-Green Light is done in Japanese, so while honing our listening and focus skills, we are dabbling in a new language.
The game is led by one of our senior students, under the supervision of a Black Belt instructor he is learning leadership and how to responsibly work with younger children as a mentor.

One of the unique facets of "Danzan Ryu Jujitsu" is that it has been taught to young children since its inception. We are not teaching a watered down version of a military art rather we are continuing a tradition of instructing age appropriate self defense and character development. Using a disciplined, but not rigid or militaristic dojo culture we at KSK help prepare children for the changes from home to preschool, grade school to middle school and on to high school and college. Our family friendly atmosphere reinforces values taught in the home.
Our physical curriculum uses exercises designed to challenge young students. We divide between strength training with a focus on core conditioning, and agility exercises to help a child’s neuro-muscular development.
Our fun, nurturing and age appropriate classes, which include a holistic martial arts and life education system provide the perfect environment for your child to develop "Focus & Discipline, Courtesy & Confidence, Problem Solving Skills, and Social Intelligence". These skills serve as a blue print for success.
We partner with families to build strong confident children for a better world.
We also offer an After School Martial Arts Program at KSK Martial Arts. Our program provides a safe and warm atmosphere where students can decompress from the school day and complete their homework supervised by our Homework Club Director, Tamara Poretz and her staff. Tamara holds a BA in Liberal Arts and a California Teaching Credential.
Students also get a one hour jujitsu workout. Our hope is that by the time the student is picked up, he/she will have had a great workout, finished their homework, and enables you to take your children home to have some quality family time!
We offer classes seven days a week. Be our guest for a free trial membership. I recommend a minimum of two classes. New students should wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise and should be well hydrated. We have water available.
