Windward Dance Company is a rep performance class for Upper School dancers, working with professional guest artists to create original works for the stage.
Windward Dance Company is a rep performance class for our most advanced and dedicated Upper School dancers, selected by audition. Students, while maintaining a strong technical foundation, learn and perform commissioned choreographic works through a series of short-term residencies with some of the most accomplished artists in the business today. Within this rigorous, artistic environment, this course seeks to prepare students for college level dance programs and a career in the arts.
Operating as usual
Longtime Windward Dance guest artist Yusha Sorzano has done it again. Each year she creates a beautiful piece that becomes the hallmark of our show. We are grateful for the way in which she helps us to elevate our program onstage and impacts the lives and learning of our student-dancers off stage. We love and respect you deeply Yusha! Happy Holidays!
Another artist residency comes to a close. Loni Landon completes her second piece for the Windward company. The textured landscape she has created challenged the dancers to find new understandings of quality and connection and Loni's perfectly demanding nature provided students a real world professional company experience. Next, we welcome Micaela G. Taylor and Madison Hicks!
What a way to start the year! Windward Dance Company residency with choreographer Brendan Evans is coming to a close. Excited for you to see the culminating work on February 1st. Stay tuned....

Taylor, Yusha Sorzano, Justine Menter, Evan Sagadencky, Brendan Evans, Norbert De La Cruz III, and alumna Lily Edwards; and launching us into the year is Ardyn Flynt leading students in a series of master classes.

Just a few hours away from the Windward Dance premier at The Broad Stage!
Final artist residency in preparation for the January 31st show has come to a close. We are grateful to Rehearsal Director in this process Marcella Lewis for setting Kyle Abraham's work. Thoughtful, thorough, poised and such a lovely example of professionalism and artistry. Look forward to sharing the work with you all in two weeks!
Just three weeks away from our biggest show of the year! We hope you will all join us on Thursday, January 31st at The Broad Stage. The evening features work by Kyle Abraham, Loni Landon, Marcus Willis, Yusha Sorzano, Jordan Johnson, Genna Moroni, James Gregg and Rubberlegz of Wewolf, and Windward alumna Annie Guest with special guest performances throughout the evening including Micaela G. Taylor's TL Collective and much more. We look forward to seeing you there!
We have been fortunate to host some amazing guest artists in Windward Dance over the last few years. Our most recent residency with Loni Landon is a reminder of the full potential for this kind of creative exchange with artists and students. It has been inspiring to observe Loni in action. She has pushed our young dancers to bring everything they have into the studio, impressed upon them the importance of approaching the work with intention, and in the process has not only created a stunning piece of choreography, but also gained 11 new devotees....12 if you include me! We love you Loni and can't wait for you to see it all come together in January.
Excited to have alumna Annie Guest working with the company!
Windward guest artists Jordan Johnson, Genna Moroni, and Micaela Taylor of the TL Collective will be performing for the upcoming JA Benefit Show. Great opportunity to support young artists in LA. Hope to see you all there!

dancemagazine.com Earlier this week, I came across a daring post by London dancer Alana Grant, sharing her story of how she'd just gotten cut at an audition not because of her talent, but because the director decided she "wouldn't want to see her in hot pants on stage." How appalling, I thought as I jolted to share h...
