Los Angeles World Salsa Fest 2024 are featuring amazing LA Style Salsa on1 and other dances Bachata with amazing local Los Angeles artists united. In addition, last year amazing organizers Janette and Rogelio brought my favorite Frankie Martinez on2 New York Style Mambo legend, the year before Eddie Torres the Mambo King. But this year 2024 they are bringing two other Mambo legends Franklin and Adolfo New York Style on2 Salsa in addition to our own legend LA Style On1 Salsa creator Francisco (I learned LA Style from his brothers and him Luis and Johnny long ago so he's always special to me.). A decade ago, I learned proper Sensual style from D&D in USA Bachata Kizomba fest in New Jersey. Now, I continue to share the knowledge and fun with all styles including Modern Zouk from Salsa pros who also became Zouk pros Brazilian friends like Carlos daSilva previously Salsa pro and styles from Claudio Gomes legendary Salsa pro in Europe and Adillo ZoukFusion creator from Brazil who lived in Netherlands many years ago. I also learned UrbanKiz Portuguese and French pros, amazing pros who did amazing, legends in Europe. This is why my partner work social dance moves are very diverse with many styles including my LA Style Salsa fusion with many styles :) I share this because it might inspire people by just going out enjoying, many possibilities happen but for sure "FUN" and "Learning" happens :)
This 2024 WSF LA, I will teach Bachata Sensual workshop on Sunday 1PM. I will teach 3 cool Zouk moves/patterns that you could use for Bachata Sensual. Of course, quickly show fundamental real Bachata fundamental and body motion fundamentals, then go straight to the 3 partnerwork pattern Lead and Follow, I will be assisted by amazing Bachata Sensual dancer who also dances Contemporary Lyrical Zouk and other amazing dance styles. :)
About my Bachata Sensual fusion with Modern Zouk motions background. Long ago, I learned UrbanBachata/SalChata from Christina Haggerty & Mike Ticas, may Mike rip, they been teaching and pioneers in LA long time. Then I travelled to Europe learned Modern Zouk, Kizomba Moderna/UrbanKiz, and a new Bachata style that was not known to many in Spain yet, I called ZoukChata because they dancing Modern Zouk to Bachata. My understanding is maybe it trickled down from Bachatango in Spain and Salsa/Zouk pro Claudio, as in 1999/2000 Zouk fusion/Rio Zouk was created same year as in Brazil as in Netherlands by Brazilian immigrant in Netherlands Salsa teacher Claudio Gomes/taught by creator Adilio Porto who created the RioZouk Love fusion in 1998, the last Lambada champion with his ex-wife. Claudio was a pro instructor in Salsa who traveled all over Europe, Bachata piggy back Salsa events back then so the only way I see Zouk moves being introduced long ago, used in Spain (Then was loved by people and at one point a bartender creator in Spain who called it Bachata Sensual and amazing champions D&D used the styling as they said they use Zouk along with Tango and other dances for their choreo.) My hypothesis is either the MZouk founder in Mallorca Zouk Island in Spain or it was taught by Salsa pro Claudio in Netherlands who traveled all over Europe and Spain, introduced it :) Anyway, I went to those countries Netherlands and Spain and after introducing some KiZouk and ZoukChata pioneer in LA in 2010-2012 when I visit home, little that I know I was featured in Bachata event USA Bachata & Kizomba in New Jersey in 2014 where the first time I learned about Bachata Sensual from Daniel & Deserey legendary Bachata Sensual champions first featured in USA. :) So then, I was the first in LA to teach Contemporary R&B Lyrical style Modern Zouk moves used also for UrbanKiz and Bachata Sensual in Los Angeles in 2013. Those were the time I went back home in LA, after going to university in Europe. And by chance, as my ex-gf joke around about my Bachata style, not being bachata but Zouk danced into Bachata remix music. I'm your LA pioneer in "ZoukChata" since 2013 when Sensual was not a thing yet in USA and ZoukChata Uprizing was being formed by my buddy that I helped out when it started in LA :)
How did this experience I had, happen to be? I was blessed to be noticed by Albert Torres in Europe while I was living there although I'm from Los Angeles, may Albert rest in peace. He featured me in a couple of his events in US, after he noticed in Germany when I was going to university in Europe, that I dance all dances styles and I dance with all the ladies from left to right during social dancing. Especially when I asked a senior citizen German lady who came with her husband, to enjoy their granddaughters show performance. Well, she was on the way from left to right I asked to dance, on the way of my goal to dance nonstop from left to right asking all the ladies haha Although it was huge place in Hamburg Germany festival over 5,000 attendees, one of Albert Torres founder co-organized around 40plus festivals worldwide. As of the senior lady dancing with me, of course I asked her German husband's permission who laughed and gave me the biggest smile and clapped that his dear German wife could enjoy. (Let’s just say I wasn’t able to go from left to right half way because women started lining up after I danced with old lady with her husband clapping for us getting other ladies attention "only instructors dance stars gets a line in these events and I was not a star, far from" :) After that on the door way, hall way towards the wc where I change sweaty shirts many times, Albert noticed me by the door and gave me his card then followed up messaged me later, to this I kept his card in my file. :) I did not follow up because I thought he didn’t mean it, just being nice being normal Angeleno :). But what inspired me to focus on teaching is when I danced with legendary lady LA Style salsa star, I was told same as Liz Lira who asked me to teach at her academy long ago. I thought they are just being nice, but sure enough they treated me as an artist pro because of my love for social dancing and learned skills. For people who don’t know Albert Torres, he was the LA Salsa Festival organizer ESPN competition organizer and featured movies like Dance with me staring Vanessa Williams and Chayan. Albert was the first ever festival organizer of its kind, attracting over 7,000 people to Los Angeles event 3 decades ago same year as Puerto Rico festival when I was too young to go in the Sportsman’s Lodge Studio City LA social dances with shows and the Mayans big LA event featuring pioneers like today’s organizers Janette's group Salsa team, Salsa Brava with Luis V. & Joby Brava legendary LA Style team and Rogelio’s team with Francisco V and Johnny V back then. People I don't really belong to be mention in, but Albert noticed my willing to dance with everyone in that thousands of people including the senior citizen lady that I simply asked and enjoy the dance with, for all to enjoy such an occasion of over 5,000 people from all over Europe and the world dancing Salsa (Salsa festival are piggybacked with two other rooms back then, Bachata and Kizomba/Zouk rooms as there were no Bachata festivals or Kizomba or Zouk festivals). I then got invitations to feature in big events as DJ and/or instructor, largest events in west US in Las Vegas all three events LVSBSuperCongress, AfroLatin and LVSalsaFest along with LABF and as far as Hawaii were among many over 50 major dance festivals counting the many times I returned featured in these large events in USA and Europe, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Denmark and Poland also featured some in TorontoCanada, CancunMexico, Asia and Caribbean Cruises ADC Miami to countries like Cuba, Bahamas, DR and other islands with over a thousand attendees.
Today I still love sharing with people my love for Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, Sensual, Zouk, Kizomba, Chachacha, and my childhood LA pop and Hip-Hop crew dance. and soon WCS/Zouk fusion and soon NeoTango with of course Zouk fusion :) See you on the World Salsa Fest dance floor Memorial Day weekend May 24-27, 2024! :)
What does this mean? "Que sigua la tradicion!" it’s got history in Los Angeles as mambo died and LA legends revived it and with new Latin music the dance evolved and reborn in LA as simply called the dance name they cheered the name Salsa, commercialized as Salsa in Hollywood movies and concerts. It means, "Lets continue the tradition of Los Angeles Salsa, celebrating all Latin styles music and dance."
However, it means more to me as I love this dance. To me it means, "Passion doesn't end if you keep learning a new, such is true love. LA Style!"
