It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Melanie “Skymoon” Rodriguez this week, a dear friend and a beautiful soul who left us too soon. Melanie’s journey on this earth ended in the quiet of sleep, a departure peaceful yet profoundly shocking to all who knew and loved her.

Melanie was a beacon of kindness, creativity, and joy. Her vibrant spirit and infectious laugh filled every room, and she touched the lives of so many with her generosity and unwavering friendship.

At this moment, words seem insufficient to encapsulate the sorrow of this loss or the depth of gratitude for having known her. I am in the process of reaching out to her family to express my deepest condolences, respect, and to share in the grieving of this incredible loss.

It is a time for us all to come together in remembrance of Melanie’s extraordinary life and to support one another in this time of sorrow.

Rest in peace, dear Skymoon. Your light will forever shine in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know you.

A year ago I did not know this would be my story. So much fun!

Dare to be the change you want to see. It is only hair. You are a human with a soul and your personality shines from the inside out.

Buzzcut on purpose Feb 2021. I let it grow until September 2021 and then I decided to cut it back shorter cuz it is my current favorite version of my silver.

Onward!

I am crossing the 7 month milestone since my buzzcut. One of the best decisions I have ever made was to choose to buzz and go gray on purpose.

The compliments are never ending. The ease of styling is a huge win. Not worrying about the “natural highlights” showing up literally 1 day post color is amazing. I now look at old photos and see fake hair lacking dimension. Crazy!

I really do prefer the shorter version, but have committed to growing until October. From there I’ll decide to cut shorter or continue to grow.

I’ll be 47 this week. Never thought I’d be full gray in my 40’s, but I am loving it!

A mega milestone in my dive buzz first into going gray on purpose!

Wow! Where did the time go? The buzzcut to grow out continues to be fun, adventurous, and continually fresh.

3-4 months more of growing before deciding on a shorter cut or more growing. My wavy curls show up, and I tuck hair behind my ears daily. I am using a “stronger” pomade for height hold.

I am still surprised by the number of compliments I receive on the color and cut: old, young, male, female, friends, acquaintances, and strangers.

5.5 months into my buzzcut grow out. I continue to have a ton of fun. My husband has witnessed on multiple occasions people yelling out as we pass by, “I love your hair.” All ages, all sexes. It is the most interesting thing. I smile when it happens.

7/15/10 vs 7/15/21

12 years ago I started a journey to transform my life. A complete transformation of how i prioritize what matters, where I spend my time, how I spend my time with the end goal to become the healthiest version of self. 11 years ago I achieved my goal weight. Today I am celebrating proof that weight loss and weight maintenance are possible still to this day. How I live each day is what makes weight maintenance possible. Choices for food, fitness, water, vitamins, portions, support, education and accountability all add up or down!

Week 21 of my buzzcut grow out to go gray on purpose. Everyday continues to be different and I am still loving the journey.

When I had long hair, it always ended up in a pony tail of some sort by end of day. This past week I had a similiar feeling when I added the headband at the end of the day 😂

The top is getting so long, I’m not sure how much longer I’ll get the “faux hawk” height I love! I have to use blow dryer heat to create the hold now. *note to self about what I want my style to be! Maybe I do not need or want longer hair? Time will tell.

Hair grows! Imagine that?!? I am planning to grow until October, which puts me at 8 months of grow out. From there I’ll decide to continuing growing or stay in a short style that have fallen in love with and never imagined I would. Honestly, I could go back to buzz day easily!

21 weeks ago was my last color. 18 weeks ago I buzzed it all off. The grow out process is fun and it seems everyday there is a slightly different look.

5 more weeks until my next trim. My hair is starting to “feather” as it grows on the sides, so I can “tuck” behind my ears.
